Good evening, everyone. I'm looking for pointers on finding a good rifle in 8mm Mauser/IS/JS

As the title says, I wanna find a decent hunting rifle in 8mm JS, I'm not looking to buy at this exact moment, but I really want some pointers.

I'm new to hunting and the Canadian firearms scene as a whole. I want to find a solid bolt-action that either comes with some glass or can mount modern scopes with little issue. I'm happy with a used rifle, so long as it's functionally good.

I've looked at just getting a brand new Sako, Mauser 25 or a Tikka T3x in 8mm JS, but that's just not available here, so I'd have to go through the pain of importing the gun and waiting, which is far from my strong suit. I've also been looking at the old Mausers that they have on InterSurplus, they seem like fine rifles, but they're rough to say the least, and the glass they might come with is probably trash, eh?

Please don't just tell me to get a .308 or whatever, 8mm JS is exactly what I'm looking for in a hunting gun, and I'm not going to give a single cent to any American company if I can help it.

Is there any particular reason you're hung up on 8x57? It's a fine cartridge that's killed lots of game (and Russians!), but it is not the most common in Kanada and this limits rifle choices, and ammo supply/options unless you're planning on reloading for it.

there's a couple of other companies that import used euro guns - check gng and epps also.

edit to add gng looks to have a very nice mauser currently ...
epps has a tikka, husky and a couple of brno's ...

I'm just a total Germaniphile lol

Besides, it does what I need it to do, it's borderline overpowered for people, but deer? Perfect... in my opinion, anyway.

Fair enough.

I like old rifles, so if I were you, I would find a Mauser action rifle that is either sportered surplus or commercial, drilled and tapped for a scope and go that route. There is plenty of aftermarket support for the 1896 and 1898 actions if you need it and they are a great rifle with great history.

I am an 8x57 head, I understand and you are going to be okay lol

Your options for new guns are limited.

Used newer production rifles can be had EE and great north guns are goof resources

There are 85's including black bears, Tikka t3s in various configurations and sauers in 8x57 in Canada.

Prophet river has ordered in some of the above before so its worth an email

This might just be me, but I'd go for the used Zastavas at SFRC.

Hard to beat a 98 and 8mm Mauser belongs in a Mauser ;) nice adjustable trigger etc.

No point if being rude to the poster, and you didn't read his post, if this was your response to him.

My bad, I apologise OP.
