So sitting putting together a list of reamers I need to buy for my current projects and I got to thinking...

I was thinking what if there was a 10mm / 40 caliber wildcat based on a 303 British......

then I found the 405 Winchester

the 405 winchester might be too long for a lee enfield action but would work in a martini

Don't forget about the .444 Marlin, with cases made from .303 brass, or the .375 Fl. N.E. 2 1/2", or the .35 Winchester. I've owned the first 2 & have long thought about the third, as well as a 9.3-303 [aka .366 Enfield] using a large ring Husqvarna M98 barrel with its 1.100" 1:12" threads recut to the 1.000" 1:14" N.S. threads required. If one was careful & did the math correctly from the start, a chamber reamer would not even be required.

As for the .405 W.C.F., as long as the bullets are seated so that you have a C.O.A.L. of ~3.075", the O.A.L. will work in the magazine. The big thing will be getting the almost straight cartridges to feed in the side-to-side tapering magazine of a L.E.

augh... like a moth to a flame...

I love this support group :)

Dan, I think I have plans for a rifling machine somewhere, about 10 years ago I went down that rabbit hole, but decided that it was just a little more then what I was willing to bite off. Also a stock duplicator machine... again a little more then I wanted to tackle. I can admit I do have my limits.

There are still some affordable barrels out there, Green Mountain for example.

I think when I get my new shop set up I'm going to give one a try. Maybe satisfy my barrel habit that way. - dan

YES. The 35 Winchester should work if it will feed from mag. Ross made rifles in 35 winchester, 1905 model for sure, that's a double column mag. Read somewhere they offered a 405 Winchester but don't recall seeing that in the Ross Rifle Story.

Was a gent here in Alberta about 40 years back that converted Ross rifles to the short magnums of the day, 264 Win Mag, 338 Win Mag and 458 Win Mag. I had the chance to buy them back then, but was skint at the time. - dan

I've read there were many built in Russia in magnum calibers for long range target rifles from M10 rifles. Im assuming rifles left behind in 1919 when the Canadians left Russia after the ill fated intervention on the side of the White Russians.
PO Ackley did blow up tests on all the military bolt rifles of the 20th century. M10 Ross was rated stronger than 98 mauser, 03 Springfield, Lee Enfield, Carcano. Ross just edged out by the Arisaka.
