Moving and Need to Get Rid of My Pistol

I am moving to the states and own a Beretta 95f. Love the gun, but looked into exporting to the US and cost combined with red-tape just tells me to get rid of it then buy once I am there.

I spoke with the CFO to discuss options and she said:
  1. Deactivate (~150-200 bucks)
  2. Turn in for destruction
  3. Sell to a business
I'm not interested in 1 or 2, I'd love to get at least something for it, but I spoke with 2 businesses locally and got offers of 75 and 80 bucks...

Has anyone done this before and found a better way to get more of the value out of their pistol? Feeling stuck between a rock and a hard place.

(Disclaimer: I plan on doing everything by the book, not looking to break any laws or operate in the grey)

Wouldn't this be part of your good to follow? You should be able to bring good into the US as part of your work permit? if not now, then a bit later once you have confirmed your residency status etc.

I would look into shipping it to a local FFL close to your location?

I am more worried about the Canadian side and what it would look like for needing to maintain a valid RPAL and membership in order to not be breaking any Canadian laws in the long-term. The gun would be cheap to replace in the states, so I would rather just replace it once I get there.

I understand your position, however I would ask CBP if you can, well when you get your WP, because they will probably want a list of your personal goods that you are importing. While it may have to be engraved by the importer? you will find out what your options are. The US doesn't consider a pistol to be a "weapon of mass destruction" like Canada, LOL, Good Luck.

Recommendations for Auction sites?

SFRC (though some here hate them for being involved in the buyback)
Landsborough... Wards, KOS... But moving more west... SFRC is closest.

You will get a much better return...

You will get an ok return for a collectable gun selling direct to a business but not for a common one. Someone from another business was on here arguing that it's the other way around, maybe they'll put their money where their mouth is and make you a reasonable offer :)

On this subject:

When you are moving to the US and bringing your personal guns you do not have to engrave.

Lately the ATF still asks you to get your form 6 done through a FFL (can be local to where you are going, not necessarily an importer) but double check with them on a case by case basis. imports@atf.gov.

You can even leave the gun behind then come get it later, but expect to be paying duties if you do.

He said it's not worth it to him and a 92fs really isn't, but there are options to bring it. I won't go into detail too much here but feel free to pm and I can explain. I have helped with this many times.
