Winchester model #88 stock.

A friend got one for his broken one from Numrich Gun Parts Incorporated about 10 years ago. They had aftermarket replacement stocks for the 88 when he needed one.
He said Boyds also used to sell them in both laminated and Walnut and the one Numrich sold him may even have been a Boyds made one.

Thanks for the reply MK. I remember boyds having them up until about 10ish years ago, but alas, no more. I was thinking about getting something with an aluminum bedding block and hogging it out, but that is a pile of work, and I think I’ll have to be real careful about the contour for the lever to work properly?

It will also be pointed out when ordering from a stock supplier that there are two types of receiver for the model 88. The older model is pictured above in post 2 the newer does not have the small tab extending from the rear of the receiver. Good luck finding one as I have been looking for an economical (read cheap) one for a while, guess it’s time to start building a stock duplicator. Does anyone have plans for one?

Dropped the hammer, and ordered a stock from Numrich. $178.00 US with shipping, so 240 ish Canadian pesos. We'll see what kind of duty is attached upon arrival? I've had some pretty random fees ordering from Boyds in the past. If they don't advertise on the box, it usually makes costs minimal.

Good afternoon! The stock cost was $249.65ca and the wife paid another $40.00 duty when she picked it up at the post office. So, not to bad considering how hard it can be to find a stock for an 88
I checked into Numrich myself and it looks like they only have the post-64 stocks - drats!

I'm going to have that problem too, but it's going to be the best alternative. I've got the original stock for a template, so with a little creative dremel and epoxy work I'm hoping it'll come together?

Well, I finally got home and started playing with the stock. My gun is pre 64, so the stock has gaps at the lug, I'm just going to fill them in with black epoxy and call it good. These stocks are inherently weak due to the one giant inlet hole, so I'm thinking of bedding the back lug, and pillar bedding the front screw. Also thinking about slathering some epoxy along the sides to strengthen everything. Otherwise, the stock fit in perfectly and tight, so pretty happy about that. I chucked in a couple pictures, and one of the old stock. Hope this helps you with making a decision!

Thanks! Exact same break on mine, except only one-sided. There’s a very seasoned gunsmith not too far off that thinks he can stabilize the crack. If he can do that to one side I’m going to ask for some preventative measures to be installed on the other side. What a beauty stock you’ve got now, worth the money I’d say.

I was thinking of scabbing the old stock together with some diamond shaped inlay of fibreglass to hold and strengthen the sides, but it would probably look like crap, and cost a whole lotta time. Good luck with your stock, hope it turns out well!
