Does anyone know where I might find a Troy PAR .223 16" barrel? They seem to be sold out everywhere...
Thanks

That's the straight pull, not the pump action.

Mark
Ack, thanks for the clarification. Thought that all the PARs were pump...clearly attention to detail is not my strong suit. Will remove link from my original post so no one clicks on it.

All the PAR's are pump, and all the SAR's are straight pull.... :)
Yeah, I went to the site and see that now. Had no idea - thought all Troy made was that PAR. My bad in missing key details.

I better check all my recent gun purchases to confirm what I actually bought. Not so sure anymore.

This is from the guy who 10 years ago bought a Sub2000, assumed it was 9mm, bought about 53 boxes of 9mm ammo, only to realize when I actually was able to shoot the thing (a year later) that I bought it in .40S&W. Oops.

I remember when I passed on a PAR in .338 federal. I think they were under 1k at the time. Damn I wish I'd have bought it hindsight. Almost become a holy grail gun for me now.

It's a pretty easy thing to overlook.
The SAR never got much attention when it came out, it's a simpler design then the pump, not much to go wrong.

My buddy was using a Troy PAR last weekend at a 2 Gun event, I was very impressed with it. Might actually have to start looking for one also. OP, if I see anything I will let you know 👍

Those are my thoughts as well.

I own the Troy and Renegade as potential bad times rifles and while the Troy is faster it has the potential weak point of the steel rod pump breaking leaving the rifle useless. Not likely that a manual activated spring is going to malfunction on a straight pull.

I had the rod break on a brand new .308 PAR after about 30 rounds. Had to wait a year for the part, and then sold it immediately at a significant loss. I replaced it with an MRA Maverick and have no regrets.

I've read it was more of an issue than it should be on older generation rifles.

I have a 223 with about 1500 rounds through and a 308 with about 100, no issues so far but I'm conscious of it.

When did you buy your 308?

I bought mine at FOC beginning of last year, it did look a bit “stale” when I got it and I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a demo model or old stock.

For those who have both, how does the Maverick compare to the Renegade? Is it really just the same thing, just different caliber? I have owned a Renegade (MK1) but never owned a Maverick. Not even sure if stores are selling them still but I haven't been looking.

They had been $799 a pop at Rampart International. I eventually bought all four calibers .308, .338, 5.56, and 300AAC.

Nice rifles. Typical Troy Quality.

Jeff, your gun collection must be breathtaking...I don't recall a thread I have read where you didn't have the gun listed. LOL. Family man. LEO. Nice gun collection. You are living every man's dream. I enjoy living vicariously through reading your posts. Haha...

I have both, the Maverick is identical to the Renegade but slightly larger. While my Renegade works excellent, while the Maverick seems to have a weak buffer spring and the bolt gets hung up on a full mag, it will also light strike sometime if the charging handle isn’t snug forward. I’m going to throw some washers or some kind of spacer into the buffer tube to increase the spring pressure, I’m almost certain that will fix the problems.

Thank you!

I usually feel pretty fortunate and thankful.

Honestly, even in this crummy climate, we have to look for the positives. Dwelling on the negatives is no way to live, and not entirely accurate, either.

I was listening to the latest CCFR podcast and Rod was saying he was complimenting the SK government for coming up with that ingenious plan to have owners store the guns. But as usual and of course, it is the usual internet negative nancys, who say that this gets us nowhere. And perhaps in the whole scheme of things there is some truth in that, but I would at this juncture of time accept a respite from the constant barrage of bad news. But some people just simply like to complain, just like Polys live to dwell on the negative.

I tell ya this...6-7 years ago, I was in a dark place...very dark...relationally, family wise and financial wise. Yet all these years later, with the passage of time, and seeing God's hand in protecting me even in the midst of very troubling times (you just have to search my posts for anything relating to my ex's relationship with the felon) - now in less than 2 months, I am getting married, in 5 months my oldest son is getting married. I have a great job which I could have have envisioned 8 years ago. My daughter just got accepted into the university of her choice with partial scholarships (she was accepted at the others too), my youngest son is not struggling in school anymore like he was. And despite all these gun bans and such, I have been able to pivot and build my collection with stuff I didn't even think I would ever own. My kids are healthy, I have my health challenges but glad to be alive (I know people who are on their last month of life at present). Sometimes perspective is important.

Does it suck to be under this Liberal regime? Yes. Is Canada going down the toilet? Yes, in many ways. Does it stink that voters keep putting Liberals in power? Floor crossers? I hate it all.

But every time I meet a member of our community (here and elsewhere) in person, it reminds me not all is lost. There are decent people still here, still struggling, but still living out their convictions and not letting things wear them down. If we didn't have a community like CGN, we would think all hope is lost - which is why I think on the other firearms site, there are more people exiting firearms ownership than there are here (I actually don't know anyone here who has yet to fully wave the white towel). I now have a soon-to-be-wife who has a PAL (recently acquired). My future brother in law is going through orientation at our club, who has had many new members. That is encouraging. My fiancee's niece's new boyfriend wants to meet with me and has expressed interest in shooting. I have seen many young people join our ranks. That is a good thing.

Certainly there are many of us who view firearms ownership much more than simply a "hobby" (I hate that word) or a "sport". While a lot of my sporting rifles are stuck in my safe, I still take the opportunity to buy, whenever funds allow, new items. The Liberals may rob me of my tax money (though I am living purposefully now to avoid paying tax, legally, at every opportunity), of my rights, but they will never rob me of my joy. Sometimes it is good to take a step back to see the blessings we have in our lives, which may be hard to see sometimes, but if you think hard enough there is something (especially when you come across someone who has it worse, for which you can always find)
