I would like to hear from other Gunnutz folks who have had, or have some experience with the venerable 350 Remington Magnum.....:)

Like a fool I sold my last 350 Remington Magnum rifle in a Remington Model 660, laminate, 20" barrel, dog-leg bolt etc. in 2007. I also sold my Remington 673 in 350 Remington Magnum around the same time. Was buying my own house after being divorced and needed the money.

I'm now trying to replace those guns over time. I was lucky enough to find a 61 year old Remington Model 600 in 350 Remington Magnum last week. The laminate stock was cracked, but the vented rib is intact, and it appears to have fired less than 40 rounds. The bottom plastic trigger guard does not have that sway-back bulge either. It came with Redfield bases & rings, along with a vintage 2.5 power Redfield scope (German Post Reticle), and one box of ammo containing 17 rounds and three fired brass.

I've repaired the crack, stripped off the old finish, and prepped it for a refinish. I applied the first coat of Tru-Oil today, it's going to look new again.....:)

I used to reload for the 350 Magnum, back in those days I believe I used a 200 grain Hornady Interlock bullet. They worked well.

However with all the new technology in bullet choice, I was thinking the 200 grain Barnes TTSX bullet. I have not found reloading data as of yet, and was hoping to hear from some of you guys that are currently reloading the 350. If I remember correctly, Gatehouse, hoytcanon, Jeff/1911, and dan belisle, all loaded the 350 Remington Magnum at one time.

I have a Speer, Nosler, Hornady, and Barnes reloading manual. The Barnes manual is over 20 some years old. I see the Hornady 200 grain FTX bullet would work, and I see the Nosler Partition would work. But I wanted something with a pointed polymer tip like the Accubond or Barnes TTSX. What are you guys using these days?

My box magazine will only allow a COL of 2.825". I saw the Nosler Accubond will not work due to the sharp ogive and the COL will not fit in these Remington Model 600/660 box magazines.

Can we start a 350 Remington Magnum conversation for all to enjoy please?.....:)

Thanks to all who participate!.....:)

I am on my third 350. Prefer 250 gr Speer bullets in mine. - dan
Thanks Dan! Can you share what powder works for you? And what rifle platform do you currently have?.....:)

I forgot to say I would be interested in buying some brass, ammunition, bullets, or even another 350 Remington Magnum rifle, if the right one came available......:)

There's something about shooting the 350 Remington Magnum rifle that just brings a smile to one's face!......:)

I should ask, how do people like the recoil? Well I mean no one likes recoil, but other than a muzzle-brake, which I do not want on a 350, how bad is the recoil for some? I'm definitely recoil sensitive now at 64, but I don't find it all that bad on the Remington Model 600. Of course I say that now, I haven't fired it yet. I had to repair the cracked stock, and I'm currently refinishing it.....:)

I look forward to hearing about your rifle Dan!.....:)

I have owned and used three 350 mags still have a 600 18" carbine and a 700 with a 24 " barrel . I am with Dan on the 250 grain still have a bunch of Remington corelocks , speer and Hornady 250 all work well . Loaded 3031 in the carbine with the 250 and BR2015 in the 24" 70 with the 250. Twenty some odd moose through the years all one and down kills. Worked as well as my 338 and 375 mags. Recoil does not matter when you have a bull coming to your call and you and the moose are pumped up. I am old enough to remember when moose tags cost $10 bucks and tag lotteries did not exit. Have fun with your 350.

Another member of the .350 club here. Mine's a Rem 660. Still have the original furniture, but the barrel and action now live in a HS Precision stock I had made for it. Also picked up a metal trigger guard from Brownells. For years, I owned it more or less just because I was old enough to have grown up when the .350 was "a thing". But now that I live in a place with a shocking number of grizzlies running around, it finally has purpose as a very versatile tool. As far as I'm concerned, that cartridge in a short barrelled, fast-handling rifle is as useful now as it was back then.

Myself, I always thought the 250 grain pills were a bit slow for general hunting use, so I pretty much always loaded 225 grain Partitions for it. I agree that a 200 grain monolithic could be a winner as well. But I'll leave that to younger men. I'm old enough to want to keep my .350 old school :)

Thanks Warzaw for sharing!....:)

Lots of guys love the 250 grain, and they knock down game as you say very well!

This time round I'm really excited about trying those Barnes 200 grain TTSX, if they will fit in the 2.825" COL.

However I'm not convinced they will fit in that short box magazine.

I will report once I'm finished restoring the factory stock. And I get my wife to help me post pictures as well.....:)

Thanks again!....:)

Thanks Neo, I actually saw your moniker in some of the 20 year old posts I was reading...:)

Your 660 sounds identical to the 660 I used to have. Love the 20" barrel and the factory laminate stock. It's interesting that you, among many others have gone with a HS Precision stock. I wonder if those metal trigger guards are still available from Brownells?

Your right, the grizzly population has exploded in Alberta and BC. I lost an acquaintance and customer last fall to a sow grizzly attack. His name was Joseph Pendry. He fought for his life during the attack, wounded the bear with his hunting rifle. Unfortunately he died in hospital of a blood clot related to the wounds he received from the bear. A very sad day!.......:(

We have several grizzlies on our property outside of Cranbrook. Two years ago we had six. They have chased away all the black bears around here, only the grizzlies remain now.

This is obviously why I also wanted to rekindle my 350 Remington Magnum attraction....:)

I appreciate your contribution to this post.

Thanks again Neo!......:)

I am using a 225 grain sierra gameking with IMR 4320 and a cci 250 primer.
Thanks Quarterman!...;)

If you feel comfortable in letting us know what platform you own, please share with us!......:)

IMR 4320 is the powder I will start with, however I only have one pound and it has been discontinued as far as I know. I wonder if Varget would be a close substitute for the IMR 4320?

Anyone know?.....:)

First two were 600's. Current one is a Mauser. Let's me load the round out to a longer coal. I'll have to look though my load books for the load data, can't recall off the top of my head. - dan

Thank you Dan. I like the idea of the longer COL, however I want to keep the short action option.

Maybe a short action receiver with a 2.90" - 3.0" box magazine........:)

How was the recoil on Model 600's?

Extended magazine boxes weren't a thing when I owned mine. I did do that with a 284 Win I built on a 600 a little later though. Recoil was stout, but not horrible. The Mauser (which really is an intermediate action) lets me load out to 3.2". The extra boiler room lets me load those 250's up over 2600 fps. Its a very capable round. - dan

I've owned a number of 350RMs . I originally bought a Remington 700 in 1978 and used that for a number of years until I gave it to my brother . After that , I built another on a Mauser 98 action . Mostly for the longer mag box , it was far easier to load 250 gr bullets ( my preference ) in the Mauser . I gave that rifle to a young friend who's like a son to me. Next up was a Ruger Mrk II , a very accurate rifle , but just didn't click with it . I traded that for a Marlin 1895 . I'm currently without a 350 , but I might sneak in one more before I go for a dirt nap . I primarily used 250 gr bullets in all of my 350s , mostly Hornady Spire Points , but I used a fair number of Speer bullets , and , back in the day , Barnes bonded core bullets . That was many years before the monolithic bullets were available . I used 4320 for the most part ,but had great results from RL15 as well . I'm on the opposite side of the world at the moment , so unfortunately can't share any specific loads . It's a great cartridge , you will be impressed with its performance .

Can you tell me Dan how you extended your box magazine to better fit a longer COL for the 284 Winchester caliber?

I currently have a 284 Winchester rifle but the removable magazine allows me to go with a 2.950" COL.

Did you modify that Rem 600 box magazine, or was a longer one available to purchase? My current Rem 600 350 box magazine should fit a COL of 2.825".

I'm glad to hear the recoil is not too harsh!....:) LOL

Thanks!......:)

Thank you anglia2, sorry to hear both of your 350's are currently gone. I certainly know how this feels. Hence the new to me Remington 600 in 350 Rem Mag.:D

I too will try the IMR4350 powder, but as you know, it's no longer made......:(

I've got to try the Barnes 200 grain TTSX monolithic bullet. But I'm not sure the COL will fit in my factory box magazine.

Once your home, we look forward to the load information you speak of.

Thank you!......:)

I modified a 600 box. Cut, extend, weld. Opened up the stock for same, trimmed the feed ramp some too. - dan

Wow!

Now how cool is that Dan?.....:)

That would certainly would solve the short COL of these Rem 600 box magazines. Unfortunately I'm more of a wood worker than a steel fabricator....:) LOL

But what a great idea indeed!...:)

Thanks for sharing!...:)

I have a model 7 KS custom that shoots the 225 accubonds well. If you clip the white tips off you can fit them in the factory mag.
