I bought one of Gunnar's tuned Norinco customs, it has a Para slide and a whole bunch of other goodies at the end of March. I just got the phone with one of the CFO's in Orillia, he was polite and friendly but he said I shouldn't expect to see my latest purchase before May!!! :eek: :eek: :eek:
I've never had one take more then two weeks and usually just over a week.

Who's responsible for this? Which one you started the backlog????? :p
 
I think in a legal sence, as far as your gunsmith is concerned, I would call this "Restraint of trade". Perhaps after the Ontario CFO had a couple of law suits filed against him for not doing his job in a timely fashion, the registrations and transfers might speed up a wee bit!

Call him back and say.. "since it's legally allowable to lend a restricted firearm to someone.. then issue me a short term ATT, so I can take it from my house to the range.." ;)

If he says no.. then demand to know why not.. if they cannot accomidate you because of "how busy" they are.. then they can approve a TEMP att with takes 5 mins over the phone..
 
Any kind of legal action tends to be very expensive and, as we all know, in Canada the state's legal bill is paid for by our tax dollars while the private citizen's legal bill is paid for by, well, the same private citizen's own funds.

One of the first problems lies in reforming our justice system to allow private citizens to recover their legal costs from the government when using the legal system to enforce our rights or in those cases where private money is used to force the government to "do its job".

Clearly, there is no "level playing field" under the existing system. You and I get to fight for our rights "to our last dollar" while the government gets to put our feet to the fire and not only avoid any penalty if they are proven wrong, but get paid for it (in the case of the fees and salaries of all those fine folks involved in the justice industry (lawyers, LEO's and support personnel). Heck, they probably get paid overtime to defend the state's "interests".

So, perhaps what we really need is to reform of our rights to recover legal (i.e. solicitor-client) costs in those cases where a private citizen successfully brings an action (or defends one) against the state.

Barring any speedy legal reform, it might be easiest (and considerably less expensive) to write your nearest Tory MP a letter asking him or her why our own bureaucracy is waging an economic war against (Tory-supporting) tax-paying businesses and individuals.

PS- My understanding is that in Germany a person found "not guilty" of an offence has their legal (defence) bill paid for by the state. That little wrinkle makes it unattractive for the state to prosecute individuals unless they have a really strong legal case.

That, it seems to me, would be a model that we here in Canada would do well to emulate if we want to reign in the state's ability to out-spend its citizens when it comes to use of and access to our legal system.

Dalton McGuinty is responsible for the backlog. I've waited anywhere from 3 days to 5 weeks. :mad:

However, the wait was for the temporary ATT. When the registration is complete the pistol is yours. Cannot Gunnar ship the pistol to you and when it arrives it is covered under your permanent ATT thereby avoiding the lengthy wait?

I have tried this one before and they denied me a Temp ATT because they said I didn't know the other guy??

I am also waiting for a transfer and its been at least a month:mad:
 
I just bought a revolver from a brother in the EE who resides in Quebec. If I was aware of this problem I might not have done this. You have to wonder if that is the intent. I have had transfers done in minutes or hours in the past. :confused:
 
I placed an order for a new restrcited few days ago, I ordered from that place before and and both times the transfer was done in couple of days (vs. couple weeks from other stores) I know some will say it doesn't metter where you order from, but I'm hoping it will be pretty quick this time as well...:)
 
Hopefully one of the things discussed at the meeting of the Ont. CFO with shooting ranges on the 26th of this month is the glacial pace of restricted transfers.
 
Sold three pistols around Feb 20. The alberta one was done in three business days out the door, the next (ON) was last week and the third (ON) one to the mail box today. It feels weird holding on to other people's property for so long.
 
I've yet to have a transfer come through in under 4 weeks. Its always slow in Ontario, this is no surprise. Might have something to do with the fact that Ontario has the most licence holders in Canada.
 
I just got a transfer approved from the Ont CFO for a Shadow I bought from Gunnar. Couldn't have been more than a week and a half at the most. I didn't even have to call and beg like I normally do:p.
 
I bought a pistol from a private party and had it in my possession in less than 24 hours.

There is something seriously wrong with the Ontario CFO's office.

thats because you bought it from a company they will move there ass for them because your screwing with there bus . But for rest of use youll have to wait i been waiting for almost 5 weeks now . Id like to hear from CSSA about this mater and have they been asking them why it takes them so long Ont cant be buying that many more restricted firearms then the rest of the country:rolleyes:
