Single shot shotguns

Maybe it's just me but if I want to shoot a standard 20ga load(7/8oz-1oz) I'll shoot it from a 20ga gun not a 28ga. When I started out hunting 11/16oz was a standard 28ga load and 3/4oz was a heavy load for the 28. I prefer standard loads in the gauge they are designed for. I saw a 20ga load the other day in a 3" shell of 1 5/16oz! Kind of defeats the purpose of shooting sub-gauges with their lighter carry weight, less recoil and squarer patterns if you're going to be throwing a heavy field load through the next gauge smaller and adding in all the negatives by overloading that gauge.

I do not remember the 11/16 ounce load ever being a standard factory 28 gauge load.I remember the 2 1/2 inch 5/8 ounce ,2 3/4 inch, 3/4 ounce load ,1 ounce load and the old Federal 7/8 ounce factory loads, but never heard of, or saw a 28 gauge 11/16 factory load.

If a person was going to shoot a 20 gauge, instead of a 28 gauge one ounce load, might as well get a light weight 12 gauge gun and shoot 1 ounce loads out of it.:)

I got some 1.25oz 3" turkey loads for my 20ga. In my a400 no real recoil. In a lightweight 20ga sxs I think my 458wm kicks less

ARMY & NAVY C.S.L. 16-BORE SINGLE-BARRELLED TOPLEVER HAMMERLESS SHOTGUN, serial no. 49074, for 1905-09, 28in. nitro 2 1/2 chamber weight 4lb. 4oz

Baikal 12 gauge. Saved up my money when I was 12 or 13 and got one from Canadian tire.(of course my dad made the official purchase). I am almost 48 years old now and I still vividly remember that day. I still have it and it still in great condition. It’s funny when I bought it I couldn’t wait to get something better but some of my best memories hunting and shooting are with that gun. Me and my buddies all had single shots and we frequently discussed the best method for follow up reloads while rabbit hunting.
