Semi-auto L85a1 - Non-Restricted FRT# 198364

That "little gun shop in the middle of nowhere" was the primary conduit for the import of many select-fire and converted-automatic firearms into Canada back in the 1970s and 1980s. Owned by Mr Peter Wilke, "Ontario Guna and Tackle" (OGT) in Kenogami/Swastika ON worked closely with international surplus arms dealer SIDEM out of the UK to import all of the ex-OPP ERT FN C1A1 rifles still in Canada, all of the Original AR10 rifles and parts kits that came to Canada and then down to the USA, and many of the eclectic "odds and sods" like those semi-auto L85 rifles that popped up in small numbers. My CA C1 SMG, CA Uzi, CA PPSh-41, Russian AKMS, and several others within my collection were imported from SIDEM and sold by Peter Wilke, either as part of his Wife's business holdings or his private collection. He ran into some legal difficulty regarding CA conversions in the 1980s and as a result had to transfer all of his business dealings to his Wife's name. Business as usual continued until Peter breathed his last some time in the 2000's if memory serves....

Lots of folks know of the big distributor names like North Sylva, and the like. Very few know that one-man-act Peter Wilke topped them all during the 1980s.... He was prolific!
I drove up there back in the 80s. Spent the day there. He gave us a tour of all his buildings out back, let me pick out my own gun. Lots of stuff. He was quite the salesman. He could sell snow to an Eskimo. A lot of his stuff came surplus from Israel. He said he bought his M203 grenade launchers by the pound. Was disappointed that customs stopped his second shipment of 203s after the first got through. Probably why they went from $599 to $3500 almost overnight.

^ Whoops, looks like the arbitrary LIEberal OIC gun grab is about to get amended with yet another "model" added.... again!

The real question is not how the FRT has it classified as today. It's what the LPC scumbags and their Polycommie lobby group will amend it to tomorrow, with the stroke of their partisan pen.

Should I keep my hopes up for the CETME-A? ;( I've been wanting one since the teaser for them came out
Yes. Going to send in an updated sample and that one will hopefully get their blessing.

"U got a loicence 4 that m8?"
I literally do lol.

Congratulations, a long time coming and undoubtedly a lot of work. Are you going to try for some production models?
Thanks! They’ll be a bunch of one-offs for now.

I'll remain hopeful as I have been being, I hope I'll be buying one someday with the news they get an NR blessing the same as the L85 lol.
I'd also love a CETME-A in x39 like a PTR32 if you're familiar lol
Oh yes, there are many possibilities if it gets their blessing. Including variants in 5.56 and 9mm…

Does this mean the Murdoch L85 in production in the US is also not restricted? If so will somebody please import!

The likelihood for it being non-restricted is higher now. But it is much closer to an original L85 than the one I made is, so it might be prohib because of “easily converted to automatic fire”.

Great work! I love to see awesome work like this coming from within Canada.

Thanks!
