The amount of workload and responsibility you are posting demands over DOUBLE the offered wage as a starting point.

You want someone to pretty much run your entire operation and won't even offer a livable wage in exchange.

Good luck with that.

What we are looking for is NOT a programmer.

These are all functions performed in-house by front-end staff already. We are simply looking for somebody competent in technology, with preferably a bit of marketing experience and maybe if lucky the actual software we currently use.

This position will take these diverse functions off the backs of other staff and consolidate them in a single role.

Not rocket science just a web-sales position...

Really making that potential applicant feel valued.

You need specific skills, and experience and are unwilling to pay for it. Hence why this is a struggle to fill. Not exactly “rocket science”, is it?

I showed this to the guy I know ( who I mentioned above )

He just chuckled and said "okay, good luck". He's in the web/eccommerce industry and doesn't know a single person with the skill set you want who works in the 20/hr range in Canada.

I understand, the company is growing and it's new territory for you. But honestly guys, I've hired recently for technical positions. For 20 bucks an hour these days, forget any relevant experience. You'd have to get lucky to find someone genuinely detail oriented and who will stick around long enough to learn the job properly.

Generally, people with measurable work experience of any kind are older than 18 or 19 years old. Which means they probably don't live with their parents anymore, and have financial responsiblities. People with real financial responsiblities SIMPLY CAN'T work for $20 an hour.

I'm not trying to be insulting, but when you offer burger flipper wages, expect to get a burger flipper tier employees. If you want to have long term commitments and healthy team integration, it costs.

This complete joke of a job offering reminds me of some of VR's prized behavior from just over a year ago.

VR has made it crystal clear they will pay absolutely bare minimum while trying to gouge every dollar out of anything they sell, then verbally attack you if you dare call them out which will be followed up by their little clique of shills as previously demonstrated.

What a bunch of idiots in this thread. This is essentially an entry-level job. Some people have such an overinflated value on what they're worth it's borderline delusional. Also, if you can't live on $20/hr even in this economy then the problem is you.

Time to turn off the Andy Griffith show, wtf year do you think this is?
$20 an hour won't let you rent or eat in Podunk BC let alone Barrie On.

Minimum wage is $17.60.
So for $72 extra a week (before tax based on 30 hours and for $20/h) you want someone to perform all of this?? You guys are nuts and honestly, the fact that you posted this makes me not want to shop with you anymore. I'm absolutely mind blown right now.
You should be embarrassed and pull this post.

Unfortunately that's just not true. I imagine you are probably pretty far removed from average living expenses. Add up rent/mortgage, car payment, insurance, food, etc. Even just one person with no kids or pets would be below $0 at the end of the month living in Barrie. The average Ontarian genuinely cannot afford to work this job.

VRS has never hired for this position before and that's fine. They are working thru it I'm sure. They will need to compromise by either getting a low ( or zero ) experience employee, or by paying more than they hope to pay. Simple as that.

You may want to look in the mirror pal. You might see a bigger fool!....:ROFLMAO:

VRS will fill this position with or without all the commentary here btw, hoping they have success finding a good candidate. Remuneration level will adjust if they don't. Like any business.

I'm commenting because I have buddies out west I talk to often/I've worked in manufacturing my whole career in S. Ontario. Managerial mostly. Here, seems small companies (and big ones run like them)...the decision makers are often guys aging-out with their houses paid for, and @ the end of their careers facing the unwanted challenges of keeping businesses viable in a self-destructive Liberal Canada. What do young candidates look like these days? The too-often uninspired younger generation, with questionable drive and inflated sense of value=they're the ones pi**ing and moaning about how hard they're working for so little $, and jump ship when companies don't jump through hoops and tolerate cell phone use, smoke breaks, 2-3 washroom breaks an hour, late arrivals...grandmother who dies 3X. I've been in the position of trying to retain the bright lights too, and have seen companies knowingly enter into a protracted search for a low-pay candidate rather than pay an experienced, driven/reliable one an extra $100 a week.

Point being/expectations-wise...what's true in small-town BC isn't what reality might be in a city like Barrie that has exploded in size, and largely residential. Not everyone can write their own ticket.

There used to be a saying that stated, "if you offer peanuts for compensation, you will get monkeys!"

The fellow above that stated one can live off of $20.00 per hour lives in a Liberal dream world!

Our local Dairy Queen in Cranbrook pays students $20.00 an hour to serve ice-cream and burgers. They pay a little over minimum wage to attract a better employee.

Ontario is one of the most expensive places to live in Canada....:( (I'm certain BC takes a close second.....:()

VRS might find a student who lives at home for $20.00-$22.00 an hour, however it is not a livable wage for someone living on their own who pays for rent, food, gas, insurance, transit fare, or car payments.

I think the argument here is the astronomical costs to sustain life, in a corrupt and tyrannical Liberal Country. Those who believe $21.00 an hour is a livable wage for a single person living on their own are either Liberals themselves or just really gifted.;)

Anyone who has seen their other wanted ads remain unfilled would roll their eyes at you, the rest of the boomer-spiel was not worth reading. It just shows the last time you looked for work was in the 20th century,

haha-if you say so. Not the unfulfilled-I have seen that and for more reasons than I'm guessing you could point out. The boomer comment was ABOUT what you get when that's all you offer, but you understand my point better than me. Part of what I do is the hiring, and part of that is always trying to get $ out of the company for the best candidates. Both hiring and retaining.

Never argued $20 is a good wage, but I bet some people were reading and maybe considering it when the chorus of critics chimed-in. We all need to see gun businesses succeed in Canada, but sure...pile-on to VRS even if you don't live in Ontario or have any intention of working for this company.

Wishing VRS a good 2026
