Best Shell for Skeet

That along with the price of targets that use to cost $10 a box now $40 the game has taken real kick in the butt. I give you guys credit for hanging in there and keeping the sport alive not a easy task nowdays,
The average to shoot 100 clays at our club a few years ago, was about $30 in factory loads, and $20 in targets for a total of $50, but now it's more like $60 in ammunition, and $28 in targets, for $88 in total. That is a huge difference, and some club members have stopped coming out, due to the cost.

Rio makes a good shell. Score ammo has proven to be the dirtiest and least consistent shell I've ever used. Only consistent aspect of score ammo is poor patterns. Doesn't matter if its steel waterfowl loads for trap loads or feild loads.

Yep, I am a big fan of Rio.

We have a group of international skeet shooters at our club which does have an international field with the high speed throwers. They were in a local store this week and bought 50 cases of shells. Somebody loves shooting :)

50 flats isn't even a lot for a group of shooters, many individual clays shooters make purchases of 50 flats or more.

I’m getting old and don’t shoot as much but still manage to shoot around 50 flats a year in the 12 and a bunch more in the twenty but the prices have sure gotten high!! Top tier target ammo being $20 give or take a little with tax per box. Hey, you can’t take it with you!

Yup tru enough, we just bought another pallet 104 flats, that will be the 3rd one in the past 12 months, personally I burn up close to 40 flats myself every year.
I use about 40 flats per year, about 10 flats of 12 gauge at sporting clays, and 15 flats of 28 gauge, and another 15 flats of 410 at skeet. I load my own 28 and 410, but I buy factory 12 gauge, as the saving in 12 gauge, aren't worth the time and effort.

The only way it pays to load 12ga is if you make your own shot. If you have to buy shot, the only reason to load 12ga is if you just enjoy loading. You will save a little, even buying shot but as SJ said, the savings is minimal compared to the sub gauges.
