Mounties new pistol announced.

Thanks 😊
Next how many pistols ? roughly at what cost are needed ?
What will happen to all those S&W s 5946 s ?
20,000+ pistols. I haven’t heard any prices floating around but it’s a complete package with pistol, light red dot, holster and Nanuk hard case. Not a cheap package!

ugh. What's with agencies thinking that converting to tupperware and striker fired is somehow modernizing and better?

I'd insist on keeping the old S&W pistol if I were a mountie: I knew someone that used to own one, and it was one of the most ergonomic pistols I ever shot: they are a good sidearm. Same with the military: yes, the Hipowers they had were probably worn out but no patent, or at least the ability to manufacture them still under license would have produced the familiar, reliable sidearm for cheaper and zero training changes. And for the herd that wants to bleat "100yo tech"... yeah, tell that to the special forces that still roll with the 1911. The Ranger rifle and every bolt action sniper rifle is based on 1800s tech, and the reciprocating internal combustion engine still rules in the car, truck etc. Age means nothing when quality, and reliability are what you need. I'd go so far as to want a S&W 686-3 and 158gr soft points: When you can shoot ~4" groups at 30y, you only need one shot when it's substantial. Of course this is Canazuela: mediocrity is celebrated, stupidity revered, progress manipulated to lend virtue to destruction, and excellence scorned so I suppose non of this makes much sense anymore.
Only took a couple decades since once of theirs died screaming as the guy jumped on the hood of the cop car and put a few rounds from a lever action through the mountie who was stuck in his seatbelt, unable to reach the magazine that had fallen out on impact. Your 1960s era designed SW had a magazine disconnect of course like all old boomer junk had back then. He'd still have had one shot to take with the Glock.

What a ridiculously stupid take! Hundreds of police forces and militaries use Glocks with great success. I know a few Mounties and they all say the same, good range pistol otherwise horrible sidearm when your life depends on it. Nostalgia won't save your life in a gunfight...

The future is now, old man!

In my experience the vast majority of cops are decent, selfless, hardworking and committed to serving the public. It is because of poor leadership, recruitment, training, equipment or policy (none of which front line officers have any say in or control over) that things go sideways. The same is true in the CAF. Sadly Police Chiefs like the late Daryl Gates LAPD rarely get appointed anymore. Instead politicians favour woke DEI hires who are yes men/women. We know first hand the train wreck that follows when that happens, including the erosion of public trust.
💯 Correct. Police leaders are politicians first, result getters second. It used to be the other way around.

I have little or no interest in what sidearms are provided to the King’s Cowboys.

My interest is limited to the sidearms that my loved ones and neighbours are able to carry, and the conditions under which they may do so.

They are the individuals most likely to find themselves alone acting as first responders in life threatening situations!

The King’s Cowboys rarely find themselves in such situations, being far more likely to be responding to the situations encountered by my loved ones and neighbours, after the action has terminated, armed to the teeth, accompanied by heavily armed backup, including special tactical teams.

Who should be armed?

Generally speaking, I consider that Sir John A. MacDonald had the correct take.

Gun law serves only to disarm those who should be armed, while leaving their assailants armed.

Ever wonder why there would be such a sentiment? There are real shtbags running the dog and pony show.
Sure but there's a Firearms Politics Forums section. Go start a thread over there complaining about the RCMP getting a new pistol. Don't polute and derail a thread where people are curious and asking questions about the new pistol.

someone missed the point... Who cares what hundreds of others are using: so? I didn't say Glocks were junk: their stacking triggers are rubbish, they still work but are not near what Walther has produced. Since you dodged the questions: by what measure is the Browning Hi-power obsolete? the 150yo bolt action rifle design?

I also mentioned nothing about nostalgia, only practicality of proven designs... red herring. You blabber on like I'm an advocate for the "broomhandle" Mauser or flintlock...

The future is tomorrow... now is the present and yesterday is the past: next time get it right so I can at least ask what your point is. Give me an old S&W, preferably a 4506 or even an antiquated Beretta 92fs. The point you missed is old doesn't mean obsolete... but I'm sure an old guy with a wheelgun can school a grasshopper like you: Jerry Miculek would have some words for you.

Jerry’s words would most likely be something like “Ditch that old clunker and get some M&P 2.0”
