What's your white whale?

My white whale is a Joseph Just kipplauf, made in Furlach, Austria. Chambered in the 300 H&H, 26' barrel, half round half octagon, open sights, ejector, bullet trap in the rear stock, animal engraving on the side plate, bullet trap and forend hanger.

Not like its a rare one and it could always be had, but the Win 70 Pre 64 in 257 Bob in the EE looks like a real keeper to me. That would be awesome.

The new Win 70s are too...I dunno, chunky? for me. Keep going back to the older ones. They just look, feel and handle better than the newer stuff.

He became Joel. 🤣

Sounds like we're both still living rent free in your noggin and making ya feel extra trolly lol

I'll add a Win 70 Pre 64 in 7x57 to my list. That one and the 257 Bob are about the only things I'd consider "white whale" guns at this point. But this whole thread is full of great stuff, happy its continuing.

My white whale was more of a cartridge than a rifle. Many years back reading my Bob Hagel book I caught the .333 OKH bug. He felt the caliber maximized the 30-06 case capabilities. Bullets of that size were not common until the .338 Win came out. Not long after the .338/06 was born. Eventually I found a Weatherby ultralight in the desired caliber. Perfect for a light weight carry rifle looking to fill a moose tag. 225 gr Partitions at 2700 fps work just fine.

Mine was a Ruger M77-RS .358 Win Carbine, but I found it last year... and it has proven to be an incredibly accurate and handy rifle.

Third rifle down, Brad;
