I might give Magnum a try then.
I've been using Magpro in 300 Win and 7mm Rem, and it's been pretty solid.
Had to switch from H1000 when the prices and availability went crazy, couldn't afford it lol.
Magnum and Magpro are still priced fairly decent.
 
1150fps? Sorry, brain fart. 3150 fps. It seems too fast, cosidering the Hodgdon data, even for a 28ā€ barrel. Iā€™ve backed off two more grains and will check at the range again soon.

Second round pierced the primer. Chambered the third round, a little stiff so I checked. The firing pin was marking the new primer so shooting was over for that day. After cleaning the pin seems good so Iā€™ll resume testing soon.

The pierced primer incident was worse than I thought. Now the primers crater so badly that I have to punch them down by dropping the hammer again, just to open the action, even with light loads. Iā€™ll try some factory loads soon but I think a trip to the gunsmith will be in order before any more load development.

Have you checked the bolt face of the rifle? It's possible that it requires to be bushed.
 
A feature of the falling block action is that you canā€™t see the firing pin area at all. The only disassembly guide I have seen was a YouTube video that doesnā€™t look that easy.
 
Sounds like sheā€™s a little too hot of a load, be careful. I have reloaded for 30 years and have had one really bad screw up, I was loading for my sons 300 Norma mag and same problem not much data available and none for the powder I wanted to use at the time so I started searching reloading data websites, found one from some where in another country Sweden maybe? and started reading along, found the powder I wanted to use and proceeded to try it, keep in mind my eyesight is not what it used to be to be and the print on the site was really small, anyway I read what I thought was grains that I could see and loaded, son chambered a round and fired and I think that bullet is still orbiting the planet , after the concussion subsided we started inspecting what the heck happened. Couldnā€™t open the gun, had to force it open and what came out looked nothing like a bullet case for a 300 Norma anymore, primer was gone flash hole was wide open, was a Christensen mpr like $3500 gun, not anymore lol , no one was hurt but my wallet and pride but the cause was it was in percent and not grains in the small print, and if you wanted the grains you had to pay on the site. Lesson learned!! So when you think youā€™ve searched enough and asked enough questions ask a few more and double or triple check the facts.
 
Not really the best idea to run rifles like the 1885 with hot loads.
Rebounding hammer and spring retracted firing leaves the primer dent unsupported allowing the primer to blank easily.
