Frustrating last few visits

I was in there last Sunday hoping to order collets and trimmer heads for my new RCBS trimmer, and ended up leaving after waiting 20 minutes. They had 2 people at the front desk helping a pile of people sign into the range, but only 1 person working the firearms and optics desks. That fellow was busy helping an older fellow shop for a hunting rifle, and it clear that he wasn't going to free up soon so I left. Seemed lightly staffed for a Sunday, I'm used to seeing more people working there when I visit.
Once I was home I sent them an email to ask to order the parts, and they got back to me the next day stating that they had ordered them for me.

i have tried hard 3 times to like this store. its fairly close to me. last time i was in with my dirty farmer carharts on and you would think i had turned invisable. i spend a lot on this ?sport? but they seem to not be able to get any of it.

Ben at liangjian outdoors is an awsome fella and has more stuff packed into a tiny shop than you could imagine. allways friendly and knows his ####.

also the shop in high river simply known as " the fly" has a ton of stuff and good staff. Glenn knows what he is talking about.

there is no need to torcher yourself in a store that makes you feel invisable. ill never darken there door again

basspro crossing has actually been incredibly good to me the last few visits, same with proline. I find that the csc staff is definitely not as helpful or knowledgeable as they should be. They certainly haven’t been as correct as the last couple fellas I dealt with at crossiron that’s for sure. I bought a t3x online from them then went in for rings and I hummed and hawed over what height talley 1 peice to get and he said you’ll need mediums, I opted for lows and sure enough I was returning them next day for mediums.

If you’re looking for another store try Ben at llianjjang outdoors. It’s above the Chinese super market on center st. Language barrier but he’s got everything in there if you know what you’re looking for.

suggesting to cut a rail in half rather than 2 peice bases ? That guy should be sweeping the floor not behind the counter lol.
If in a pinch, there isn't really anything wrong with cutting a rail in half. Heck its how the 2 piece rails should be made if their done professionally.

You're surprised someone wouldn't let you walk out the door with a pair of high end binoculars unsupervised given the high amount of retail theft? I bet the employee would be on the hook if you walked away with them. It would take a long time at minimum wage to pay for them.

In terms of the rings. I do my own research to see what height I need. I don't rely on the advice of a minimum wage store employee. I'm not putting them down but I laugh when I see customers asking someone behind the gun counter for in depth advice. I have met very few gun store employees that I would consider having a wealth of knowledge.
Can you not comprehend written English? He said he left his Keys & Wallet/Collateral. No issue w/employee going with, a very minimal request for a higher end optic, take a look through it outside.

3 sides to every story. There was a rash of high end bike thefts in Calgary at one point with keys and wallet left. Not the customers keys and fake ID or no ID in the wallet. That being said the actual customer service there is mediocre.

He wasn’t in a pinch he was in a store requesting(very specifically he stated) a 2 peice base. Valiant sales effort maybe? Haha

The funny thing was I wasn’t in a pinch, it was just that they didn’t sell two piece weaver style bases so Hmatt is correct, it was a valiant sales effort. Completely stupid and counter intuitive, but valiant.

I can but apparently you cannot. I was responding to this part. It looks like he had an issue with the employee following him out of the store and standing with him.

"Anyway, eventually, he agreed to let me take just one pair outside while watching me the entire time like a criminal on day-1 parole. It completely ruined the buying experience, and I ended up purchasing the binoculars online instead."

I just think you have a short attention span and didn't read the whole post.

A wallet and keys mean nothing today. Fake IDs are easy to buy online and who's to say where the keys are from?

I've had good service from CSC, I received a rifle advertised with a very good bore, it was a typical Enfield gravel road bore. They accepted the return out of window, despite disagreeing with my assessment. It was fair at best so I'd recommend in-store for used stuff.

well, the keys mentioned was the key fob to my car. Had big FORD logo right on it. Whatever. Like I said. Policy is policy. I get it. I appreciate the caution, believe me.
It’s just if you were to let me go outside with them, at least give me the decency of some fking space. You’ve got my wallet which has my ID, PAL And credit cards in there. If I’m going thru the trouble of counterfeiting all of those, I wouldn’t be stealing $1k binos. and at least pretend to kind of trust me. Haha.

keys and a wallet - I can put together a set of garbage keys and buy a wallet at a second hand shop for $1. That's worth exactly sweet fVck all to the store and not worth the risk of damage or the possibility of the product walking, imho. Want to test them out? Look through the window like everyone else.
I know of no other shop that is willing to let some prospective buyer walk out with a high end product to 'test 'em out'.

Let's pretend the sky is blue in your world and say the salesman let's the OP walk out with the binos. What happens if said prospective customer walks out with the binos in one hand and inadvertently falls down the stairs or drops the binos down the stairs at the entrance to the shop? Did the idiot prospective customer that can't look out window with the binos in the store just buy them or is the store on the hook?

This public complaint has zero merit in my opinion and makes the OP look pretty foolish.

I usually really like the CSC and always usually suggest it to my colleagues. The last few times I’ve been there, the customer service has been frustrating.

On one visit, I went in planning to buy a pair of high end binoculars. After narrowing it down to a few options, I asked if I could take them outside to actually look at something farther than 10 yards away. The employee was very reluctant. I even offered to leave my keys and wallet behind as collateral, but he still wasn’t comfortable with it. Whatever. That’s fine. Store policy. Anyway, eventually, he agreed to let me take just one pair outside while watching me the entire time like a criminal on day-1 parole. It completely ruined the buying experience, and I ended up purchasing the binoculars online instead.

On my most recent visit, I bought a rifle, scope, and rings together. The salesperson confidently said I need high rings. I unfortunately trusted the recommendation, but when I got home and mounted everything, there was over a 3/8” gap between the scope and barrel. I went back and bought low rings instead, which fit perfectly—even with a 50mm objective. I didn’t want to put the old rings back together in the packaging etc because the store was nearly closing and I wanted to make it.

The following day, I tried to return the high rings since they were sold to me “incorrectly”. At first, I was told no returns. Only after explaining the situation did they agree to offer store credit, which is still frustrating given my situation.

What disappoints me most is that I’d expect this kind of nonsense from a big-box retailer, not a local gun shop. I really wish there were more knowledgeable staff making product recommendations.

One final anecdote:
When I was buying the rifle, scope, and rings, the salesperson said I need to buy a lounting solution and said they have rails. I told him I specifically wanted two-piece bases, but since they didn’t have any in stock, his recommendation was to buy the rail and cut it in half. What a smart and resourceful suggestion…..
I sometimes go look at stuff in person and then go buy it cheaper on line too. There is no need to be embarrassed - You don't have to make up a story for doing something similar. I do find it humorous you actually see it as a problem that a sales clerk wasn't cool about you walking out with a set of binos to look through, and you see it fit to complain on line about it (in CSC's page no less - very classy).

You bought a rifle, scope and rings all at once and didn't check which height rings you needed prior to choosing them seeing as you had the rifle and scope there? That seems a bit far fetched.

I'm pretty sure I could go into that store and pick out multiple manufacture's options for extra low, low, medium, high, extra high rings for 1", 30mm, 34mm and 35mm tubes, so you'll have to excuse me for not believing a word you type that a sales clerk recommended you saw in half a one-piece base.

I'm not affiliated with the store at all, but I do frequent it as a consumer. It does get extremely busy. I can't recollect a time I've never been asked if I needed anything, but I'm sure it has happened. If I do need help I simply ask for it.
Sales staff are working a job and are for the most part, young fellows. They can't be experts or even knowledgeable in everything that is in that store.

Bla bla blaahh..They Had/Seen his PAL & any & all I.D at this point, an obvious real/legit Truck key, easily verified.. w/e...goes for the other tool too. The worker went with him..anyway..again..bla bla blahs :)

I’m from out of province but stop at CSC whenever I’m visiting family in Alberta. It’s usually order online well in advance (sometimes weeks/months) and do store pickup when I arrive, but the few times I’ve bought things in-store have also been positive.

My only complaint is they don’t have anymore of that coveted Swiss .223/5.56 TC AP ammo lol

Man, a similar thing happened to me at the Cabela's gun counter in Calgary. I was buying scope rings, had them in my hand and while there I asked to see a scope I was interested in. The guy took out the scope and I was looking at it and he noticed the rings I had placed on the counter while looking at the scope. He just said "you need high rings, those are low". I told him the rings were for another scope and I need low rings. The guy then firmly said, "no, you need high rings". It was almost turning into an argument. Crazy. Anyway, I thanked him for showing me the scope and started walking away. The guy shouted at me saying I was buying the wrong ring size. He had no idea what I needed. What a crazy scene.
