If it isnt regulated ...and st that pricepoint it absolutely should be....its worthless
I wish this were true, but honestly, in today's world, at today's prices, I think it would be a miracle if they can produce these guns
and regulate them for anything like this price. We're talking about a laborious, time-intensive process that requires a great deal of specialized skill and experience. It won't be done by the 20-year-old kid behind the Cabela's counter who people think is a gunsmith because he can...maybe, most of the time...manage to get a scope mounted onto a rifle that's already equipped with a pic rail from the factory.
I think they chose about the dumbest name possible for this little gun. "Survivalist" implies an ultra-efficient, function-above-all gun, not a dressed-up double rifle. But in this case, I'd bet that they struggled to justify using the T-word...
tactical...but just couldn't quite manage going that far.
Survivalist was probably the second choice name. I think that something like
Classic Express Plinker would be closest to the truth, but who'd get excited by that name?
And of course a levergun would be easier to use, more efficient, have greater capacity, be more affordable...but in today's world none of those things are what draws a shooter to a double rifle. Hell, the whole idea of a double was to have essentially two complete mechanisms, including two triggers, so that if one failed with an elephant bearing down on you the second was ready for instant use. When every shot could turn into a life-or-death affair
for the hunter, that was the ultimate efficiency. Today, when a gun like this is likely to be used on pumpkins or water jugs or icicles or skunks...none of which present much danger to the shooter...we can throw practicality out the window.
We buy a double rifle because we want a double rifle, plain and simple. Trying to rationalize it by making it "practical" is simply being disingenuous. The purpose of a gun like this today is not to defend against giant murderous critters...it's to make us smile. Admitting that to ourselves makes life easier.
