Well, it does sound a bit extreme but not completely out of the question.
If they based it on looks then hasn't anyone given them one to tear apart and find out that it should be non-res? Has everyone just given up? I'm sure the RCMP don't want to be given one, other wise they'd have to re-classify it as non-res.
Maybe I wasn't clear enough.
They classified it as prohib based on looks. This was apparently done at the SHOT show.
Blue Line Activities, the GSG-5 importer, apparently gave the RCMP lab a production model to re-evaluate so as to determine whether or not it is an MP5 variant. It should be noted the MP5 is prohib by name and all variants are thusly prohibited. The GSG-5 is being marketed as an MP5 variant, of sorts.
At this point in time it appears the importation process is dead in the water. I personally suspect the RCMP are unwilling to re-class the GSG because if they do they face a whole swamp load of appeals because many of the firearms that are prohibited were thusly classified without logic. If you want logic, ignore gun politics and find another hobby.
This is for the people who decided the gun be prohib.
