Frontman44…. My nephew bought a safari hunt at a silent auction. 10 days 9 nights plains games safari. Includes daily rates for up to 4 hunters. Hunting in the Limpopo Province, trophy fees for one Blesbuck and one Impala for each hunter. Luxurious thatched chalets with en suite baths, meals, all beverages, licensed professional hunter, tracker, skinner, and daily laundry services..airfares to Johannesburg, not include.
He got a fantastic deal on this and he is just looking to recover his cost

artificially low day rates and package costs. and JACKED trophy fees.
See posts like the above at least a few times each year, people go to fundraisers etc and buy these after a few beverages. do their homework after the fact and realize why it was so cheap at the auction.

Crazy_Farmer that's pretty close to what happened Haha. A few cocktails had him thinking he may take up hunting and take his wife for some sight seeing. He was at this event without her and the whole idea didn't go over well the next morning. And now a $10K paper weight...... poor guy

Outfitters are under a lot of pressure to donate hunts and they try as hard as they can to word it so they aren’t losing that much money or could even make some. Either that or the guy doesn’t come at all and they can tell SCI that they donated the damn hunt can they have their table? The hunts that are really all inclusive usually go for around market value to someone who knows the outfitter and area, wants to shoot alacarte anyway because he’s already got the usual package animals already. Guy like that can make it work and so can the guy who doesn’t care about money much and is happy to get short order dates.
Did my first safari that way, paid a guy 2200 for his auction hunt and 2 months later was in Africa with my late wife. Adding a zero to the 2200 wouldn’t even come close to what it really cost but I never regretted it.
Your friend might have to drop his price to a fraction or die with an expired piece of paper in his pocket. Or alternately get him in touch with me, doesn’t cost anything to talk.
Hunting in Africa is something on an entirely different level, an adventure of a lifetime for sure. I went to the Selous in Tanzania last summer for Buff and Hippo, my first time to Africa and we spent close to a month there. The amount and diversity of species is second to none and they are notoriously tough creatures. All I want to do is go back and experience it again.
