Looking for Information on FN SA-22 (planning to buy)

Dear all

Obviously either being too dumb to insert pictures or since being a newbie, the page won't allow me to do so, I try my luck by describing the rifle i plan to buy:

Manufacturer: FN (that is what the armourer states)
Model: Semi-Automatic take down (therefore a SA-22)
Caliber: .22 LR
Loading port: side
Stock: Foregrip is not the slim version, seems to have no checkering
Sling swivels on barrel and stock
Sights: seems to have "Winchester style" sight, no folding

I will post pictures, when I find out how to do it...

Rifles were marked FN if for European market, Browning for North America. All steel and walnut.
Manufacture has been moved to Japan.
There is a Chinese made clone as well. Pretty rough compared with Belgian and Japanese rifles.
Really nice recreational shooters. Light, handy, slick takedown if that matters. There are scope mounting options although the takedown feature complicates things.
Sooner or later the bottom ejection will put a hot cartridge case up your sleeve.
I have two - a rebuilt Belgian/Japanese project rifle, assembled from the remains of two rifles, reblued and restocked, and and an earlier slender version in .22Short.
 
I think you will find that FN in Belgium was making the SA22 since John Browning designed it. Is probable that FN made their own versions, besides the ones they marked as "Browning" and exported to North America and elsewhere. I have a "Belgian made" Browning SA-22 - it took some doing, but I ended up with a cantilevered scope base (made by Talley), stamped "Browning" and the Talley rings to go on it, from Prophet River. On this one, I had to remove the rear sight - then use two threaded holes on the barrel to mount the base - the very rear of the base has a threaded "screw" that allows the take down function to continue, but prevents the rear of the scope base from flapping up and down.

Thank you for your answer. Yep, I did, as well spending some hours on other forums. Since those rifles just show up once or twice a year to buy here in Switzerland, local info is rare, and since I cannot upload pictures as a file it makes it no easier.

In general, the rifle looks like the picture you posted, just without checkering, no roll engraving and the rear sight with the "half fir tree" elevation adjuster. So it must be earliest from the 60ies, has a custom stock or is a Mirokou model which is falsly stated as FN. Anyway, since in Europe, it is rather a FN or Mirokou than a "Browning" or "Remington".
