no you wouldnt, not with a 30-06 in your handleI would consider getting a 308... if I didn't already have a 30-06 and a 6.5x55.
Exactly. But with the 30-06 you have both.I really don't think there is a definitive answer right or wrong to this debate

Yeah, OK. You got meno you wouldnt, not with a 30-06 in your handle
Truth is faster is faster and not slower and not the same. Faster is better.
If slower is the same as faster or better for you. I'm ok with that.
I've NEVER NOT been able to find 30-06.My 2 cents and dont know if it has been mentioned.
Awhile back during the last ammo shortage you could find 308 but no 30-06.
However if that was not a consideration I do lean towards the 30-06.
30-06 is better ANY TIME you don't want slower, weaker, and shorter. When is faster better? Every time any animal is shot with a 30-06 vs a 308? In some specific examples?
I never said slower is better, did I?![]()
Choose better bullets. - danThis is true but what I don't understand is....
a 200-220gr bullet, slightly off target 'cause sh!t happens, hits a shoulder/upper leg bone from a quartering shot and the bone breaks/shatters and animal is down. Maybe not dead but down.
The same fvcked up shot with 130-165gr bullet hits a shoulder/upper leg, glances off and the animal is wounded and keeps on running.
That's my reasoning to prefer the heavy bullet in the '06.
Myself, for deer, I've used 308 Sako hammerhead and it worked well and got the job done. I've also used 9.3x62. This year, in different areas, I'm using a 375 Ruger and a 12ga sabot.
My long list of customers looking for 30-06 ammo during that time was very real.I've NEVER NOT been able to find 30-06.

Perhaps you just did not go shopping for it during that year or so ?
I know who ever would of thought ?
We always assumed it would be one of those ones you could always get.
Just goes to show even with the old 06 you should stock up a bit.

So, with 278 replies and sometimes more than one reply from the same member (like myself) , would one use the .308 or the 30:06 for the job ?
Or does it really matter ?
Cause many of us know of someone who has this kinda luck in their first hunting season or two.Wow
Put me in camp "dont matter"
