Are Shooting Chrony (Brand) still useable in 2026?

Played with it more yesterday. Tested my ghetto slugs. So found out it only registered 2 out of 3 of the controled shot shells I use for the powder charge. It did the screen like it was registering. But threw up the previous number. Then notice was shot 2 not shot 3..

Had no issue registering the slugs.

Push thru, was the method of cutting the inner shot crimp out, dumping the bird shot and pushing thru the casted slug.

The other method wss cutting the crimp off, dumping the shot, trimming the shot cup, putting in a slug and roll crimping. Then working on various rolled crimp method. Over shot cards. No cards..

I'm still using my Chrony Alpha

works good enough, and I have yet to shoot holes in it. but the faceplate has scummed to muzzle blast

I have a master beta - who in marketing came up with that name? - that i still use. Same faceplate condition. Still works. Plastic screens have all deteriorated and cracked to pieces so it works best on cloudy days.

I have a old Shooting chrony. I was considering upgrading my gear, but 700 for a Garmin seems alot. Wife was like what is wrong with your old one? Can a old school shooting chrony still be useable in todays society? I got a FX radar but only goes to 1100 fps.

I plan on tieing a string that is 12ft to keep a constant 12ft. Using a laser bore sighter and template to align everything, and under screen lights.

Does your chrony work? If so why do you want to spend money on a new one. I think u should listen to your eife.

But was my birthday and got a class action payout. So treated myself.

I love the Garmin.

Yep, when this thread started I just had a Beta Chrony, now I have a Garmin, too.

Packs to the range in a pocket, rather than its own carry case.

Sets up in 1 minute without ever going down range, rather than 20 minutes of fiddling, including going forward of the firing line to get the setup right.

Previously I only took the Chrony when I really wanted numbers. Now, I'll probably take the Garmin every range trip, just in case I feel like getting some measurements.

It is so simple to setup. I just put it in a small pistol case. I haven't tried the APP yet.

If you're interested in sending the sessions to your computer via email it's great and is easier to review at the range.
It send in an Excel format.

Actually, I have learned that my older smartphone can"t handle the app. You need Android 10. So I am using the Garmin much like I used my Chrony, making notes on paper about the identity of each string, then typing numbers into my spreadsheet on my desktop when I get home.

I did learn that it is possible to import the data directly off the unit, simply by plugging it in. Problem is they come as FIT files, and I have not found a good software to read those yet, just some online freeware that allows one to view.
