I went Makasi... I like stuff that's a little weird and idiosyncratic... like a Pontiac Aztek...

I'm hoping that they also bring in a 7.62x39 version cause I need to fill that hole in the collection as well.

IMI/IWI (whatever they are now) are a solid manufacturer so you'll likely be good to go out of the box. I had a few Tavors, they ran great - gave me Tavor Eye a bunch of times - but never really liked them as much as my FS2K.

Enjoy whatever your choice is and like others have said, if ya don't like it, sell it and get something else...

I cancelled my Makasi order and went restricted Carmel. Had the price been the same, the weight and bulk difference being enough I’d probably go Makasi but I’m happy for the price point on the restricted Carmel. It’s 2/3rds the cost of a Bren and it’s 2/3 the quality of the Bren.

I added a poll to this thread. For people who actually pre-ordered one, the other, or both. Not necessarily for people who may WANT one...but it is for people who have actually put in a pre-order

Honestly, it's been so long since we have had some guns that have truly garnered excitement. All of us have had to deal with various cope guns over the years...but the fact that two cool sporting rifles are coming in, it's an exciting time for us. Yes, I am deeply aware of the crazy cost of these, but really...a number of years ago, we had Bren2s, X95s, M&M, etc. all of which were at this price point or higher.

I totally get it though...many people on the sidelines due to being burned. But I was told in late 2020 NOT to buy an X95 as it may get banned. I am glad I didn't listen to the detractors, as I ended up having 3-4 years of pure enjoyment with my X95, and while it was eventually banned, I wouldn't have traded the exhilaration I had with that thing for so many years.

Believe it or not, despite what Trudeau and his minions did, the appetite for gun banning and new lists, etc. seemed to have waned with Carney. Not saying Carney isn't going to be banning anything new, but he is not as much of an anti-gun zealot as Trudeau was...so in that vein, I took the plunge with the Makasi....you can bet your bottom dollar once that thing shows up, it will be a regular gun I take to my club. If they eventually ban it, oh well. I am not going to have the government dictate with fear, my buying decisions.

Something else to consider, and I haven't looked deeply into this - with the new in-effect US tariffs, I don't know if it will impact firearms manufacturers. Both Brigade and IWI (for the Carmel) I think are made in the US. I am hoping the locked in prices still apply - and I don't know whether this is having an effect on the delays. I have to think the dealers in Canada who pre-ordered paid for these pre-recent-tariffs, so will honour the price to us...hopefully not do something unscrupulous like hike their prices...but who knows what happens when things cross the border in this climate.

I was actually wondering the same.

We’re about to see inflation that we’ve never seen before… all while in a recession.

Plus a 10 cent a liter federal tax coming soon. September?

Elbows up!

Tariff is applied when it passes through the border - it is not to do with when a purchaser pays the bill.

Carny's purpose is more or less a vessel for other global interests at a high level for certain economic agendas. Gun control and other things are just things he let the minions figure out and he doesn't care as long as he doesn't have to deal with it. It doesn't mean it is good, it just means as long as it doesn't irritates him he would let the minions do whatever they want. On the other if the minions are overzealous and it irritates him personally, he may put an end to it. Carney is narcissistic, it is actually better if the gun control people constantly harass him and eventually rub him the wrong way.

Doesn't the cost of the tariff get borne by the purchaser though, even if indirectly? Seller would have to incorporate it into their price, no?

It is interesting to see the significant difference in pre-orders for the models, based on the poll. I think if it was JUST the Makasi, it would be different. But variety and having choices is a huge thing, especially when we have been options-starved for so long.

I don't know how many more semi auto sporters will enter the market, but regardless, I am happy that both interest and commitment for these new products are strong. I certainly have more than missed the boat on a few makes and models previously. I may take the plunge and put a deposit down on the Carmel as well and then find some extra overtime shifts to work (or sell off some of the cope guns) in order to actually pay for it.

If the Carmel is built like the X95 ( haven't cleaned the X95 in years before it was banned - it just kept working like a machine), I will be happy with that.

I just contacted my dealer to see how many she ordered, and will continue to try to convince myself to put down a deposit.

I don't understand how some gun owners in Canada have been able to get access to both these models earlier - sounds like for the most part they are all restricted models (which I assume is the default model) and they are making an 18.6" barrel model for restrictive environments like Canada and other countries.

Hi, I have seen long threads on both. Looks like some models have arrived in the country, but I pre-ordered my Makasi on the second wave arrivals.

Trying to convince myself to throw down a deposit on the Carmel. I so miss my X95 and while the Akdas is nice, just doesn't scratch the sporting 5.56 rifle itch.

I know the easy answer is get both. Not sure my risk tolerance, not to mention, my pocketbook will agree. Like many here, multiple times bitten by bans creates some slight hesitation. Getting the Makasi for sure as I put down a large deposit on it.

Waffling over putting a deposit down on the Carmel. I now regret not going to the East Hill Outdoors Carmel tryout a few months back.

Has anyone here been able to shoot them both and can contrast and compare? There is a fellow on YouTube from Canada who did do a short comparison for six minutes but it was all talking and in the end he picked the Makasi.

Thoughts?
