What is your go anywhere do anything rifle?

This will be my first season packing it but here is my idea of the answer to that question. Pre 64 model 70, IBI 20” carbon barrel, chambered in 338-06AI. It’s capable of tackling anything and fairly mild on recoil. Shooting a 265 grain bullet it isn’t the fastest thing around but it’s in the same territory as the Whelen or the 9.3 up close and still has the legs to reach out as far as one really needs to in the field.

Personally it would be hard to dismiss my run of the mill 700 Mtn in ‘06.
Not too short or long on length, neither UL nor too heavy (#7.2lbs optics in). Just about perfect for here in Ont. I certainly don’t feel I’m lacking or wanting anything more provincially and probably the same anywhere else in NA in reality. While I’ve had 7mmRM, 300W, 300WSM and until recently 300Wby in the past, I keep coming back to or picking up and utilizing that Mtn ‘06 95% of the time.
The Aught Six is not the fastest or flatess of calibers in todays world, however it checks off a lot of boxes game wise in NA with a wide array of grain weights in factory loads avail and over a century of proven effectiveness and reliability. Bonus pts is that if you’re in some backcountry, out there in the sticks kinda town, chances are you’ll find factory ammo for it at the local general store in a pinch. Not so much with the CM/PRCs etc
Those points are hard to ignore or dismiss. One could argue smaller, lighter, flatter, faster, bigger, more ommph yadda yadda yadda but read that above paragraph again and give it some serious thought to it… we’ll wait

A 700 Remington in 30/06, bought at Canadian Tire ,Whitehorse in 95. Bought a cheap Tupperware stock from Stalkers in Saskatoon ( shipped to me ) for $99 + tax with the idea of buying a better synthetic when funds allowed . The way it shoots and handles I never felt the need.
Shoots about any 180 grain I load for it, well. Tremendous confidence in it

For me? My Husqvarna 1640 in 30-06, now mounted with a Burris Fullfield 2.5-10x42. My 1900 in 6.5 swede is overall a nicer rifle, but that oldskool Mauser kachunk-kachunk is hard to beat.

What are the details on this guy? Do you know what it weighs without the scope?
I’ve been trying to fill the void of a lightweight packable 45/70 lever gun. I’d probably entertain the idea of a 460s&w too but they don’t seem very popular.
When doesn't it?
The bigger rifle isn't going to give you that much leeway for poor shooting or shot placement.
A bullet that expands (or fragments) sufficiently, penetrates sufficiently, etc is going to stop vitals...or reach CNS. Plenty lighter than 30-06 can do that in any situation where it can.
