BC really tearing up old logging roads

Went to the place I've been hunting ever year for the past 6 years and all the roads into the old cut blocks have been freshly deactivated. Not the old style deactivations with small ditches across the road or maybe a berm across, we are talking using Rippers on the back of bulldozers going down the lengths of the road for at least 100-200m. Making it very hard for people with disabilities to get into these spots as you can no longer drive into them. They just started doing this earlier this year.

Well that’s going to hurt me this year if I run into it! Post back surgery hiking isn’t that easy anymore!

I wonder what changed! Guess it’s time for an exoskeleton 🤣

It's been going on for decades.

More people on the back roads means more fires.

About five years ago, a very popular road in our area was given the same treatment, but they didn't just tear up a few hundred meters. They tore up a few kilometers and repeated the process at all the access points to the road.

It's still accessible to quads and dirtbikes or shank's mare, but it's impossible for most 4x4s most of us run.

We're going to see a lot more of it.

Might be trying to hide so much deforestation as well by blitzkrieg logging practices????

IMO, They are also doing some of it in part to conceal the damage left behind after logging. I hiked into into one of my spots last week, and saw that it was selectively logged and mutilated last winter; then the road in was bulldozed and chopped up for about 500 meters.

This is all about control with our current corrupt & tyrannical NDP Government. They do not want BC tax payers to have access to any crown land.

No camping, means no fires, no access means no hunting and firearms will no longer be needed in their twisted minds....:(

BC NDP idiots are the worst wildlife managers in Canada..........

I noticed the same road deactivation yesterday in areas that were accessible for over 30 years. Not anymore I'm afraid.

Soon there will be no crown left in BC to access period. There won't be much crown land left after EBY is done giving the province away to the indigenous folks, and what is left will be deactivated to everyone......:(

Make no mistake, this is by design, it's all about control.....:(

The B.C. Ministry of Forests regulates road deactivation and Ravi Parmar (who's 31 years old and has Zero experience with anything forestry related) is the man appointed by David Eby to be B.C.'s Minister of Forests.
Might come as a shock to some, but forest companies/contractors don't wander out in the bush and spend vast sums of money and time deactivating roads so they can "conceal the damage".
They do as they're told by The Ministry.
As community destroying as it would be, sometimes i feel forestry/heavy industry should just close up shop here in B.C. for a decade. All the tree huggers and self-described 'environmentalists' can get a real taste of an economy minus it's economic engine. Then, all the retired, indexed-pension folks can enjoy fighting over access with natives.
I mean, screw young families and the working class right? Who needs them?

The real irony is that they won't be able to access the natural fires to put them out. Works both ways. Stupid.

Funny thing is I've seen that first hand. I used to hunt around the Cariboo a lot and watched roads get deactivated one year, then the very next year we were using heavy machinery to push a new road in on top of the deactivated road to fight the fires. Ho much money does that cost? You pay for the machinery to go in an destroy the road then the very next year you pay other machinery to go in and rebuild the same road.

This was an area that hasn't been logged in the past 20 years. So why deactivate these roads now?

Anyone who grew up around Quesnel Lake might remember a lake and camp ground called "Ceder Dam Lake". Great fishing spot and was great moose hunting back in the day. The lake was man made back in the 1940s for mining reason. Anyways the NDP decided that they should go around and revert all these man made lakes back to the way they were before. So they did and totally destroyed the entire habitat in that area by draining the lake. No more fishing and the wildlife all left. for 60 years it was a habitat but for some reason the NDP figured to just drain it because it was originally a man made lake. What a bunch of morons.

I guess they forgot about Lafarge Lake in Coquitlam. Funny how they don't fill in NIMBY lakes and roads but trash everything else outside the GVRD.

I was part of a video conversation a few years ago and on a much smaller scale. Near my suburban location is a linear drainage feature under some high tension lines. The spruce trees were the wrong species to be there and had to be topped. But underneath there is a whole spontaneous ecosystem of riparian vegetation beside what could best be called a drainage ditch. Some genius enviro-group pronounced that the trees would be cleared and the grassed strip replanted as milkweed for the monarch butterflies. Ah yes! Remove everything for a monoculture of "weeds". I bet their professional forester $100 on-line bold as brass that there wasn't a single poplar tree in their corridor. He didn't take the bet because he'd never walked the line and wasn't anymore knowledgible of the actuals than their committee.

They are doing it in Alberta too
I work out in the foothills areas and they’ve been doing this for years
I’m guessing they don’t want a bunch of idiots driving around and getting hurt or stuck in a cut block out in the middle of nowhere
Ya it sucks for those who use these areas for hunting/trapping

Roads are so yesterday..... Meet the next generation of "quads"!

The real irony in all this is that logging road construction is paid for by the tax payer.
So we are getting double screwed.
Between Dripa, Tides, the sierra club etc we are being locked out of our own province and they are using our tax dollars to do it.
And as has been stated fire control access is going by the wayside.
The over abundance of morons on the lower mainland keeps the NDP in power.

Without a forestry sector, there are no forestry roads.

Tree huggers would rather get building materials from actual environmental damaging sources.

Trees grow back.
