Brand New to Canada: SG-12 "SPAS"

I think I have the same thing. I'm going to tap it with a small rubber mallet while I watch something on TV, I can tell it's just really really stiff, I don't think it's a repair item, but I suppose I'll know better tomorrow after a few dozen rounds. I used to shoot 3 gun matches so I know exactly how important a good bolt release is. I'd also like to get an M4 style oversized handle on this, but I think then it would hit that stock if it was folded.

I ran only ~20 rounds total, so this is no sort of review, I'll take it out for a real trial tomorrow. I'll try and see if I can get 100 rounds through it without doing anything.

Pump action worked really well actually, nice and smooth. The button that moves it from semi to pump sure feels a little suspect, I'd like to be able to pick up replacement parts for sure, this is the kind of gun you bring out for guests, I think it will get a lot of use.

The action release is as reported really nasty. They utilized the tiny semi auto handle that a lot of semi autos come with, but yeah you have to pull back on that in order to release the action. That will get old real quick, but I assume that it should smooth out with use. I can't recall if the M3 had that issue when it was new. I haven't tried grinding or sanding anything at all until I'm 100% sure I have an issue, I'm more than happy to run this now that I know she feeds and ejects.

I was expecting this because of the M3, but the pump locks back on an empty chamber. Not the worst thing in the world but something to be aware of if you are used to a regular pump.

The spinny sling mount on the mag tube has got to go. Biggest complaint was that thing jingling around.

I do believe that a loose mag tube would result in the stock coming out of folded position, oh and the detent on the folding end piece is brutal. But that's such a small complaint (and I'll get that worked out).

Overall 10/10. That might change with use. So far, very happy.

This gun is strange. On pump it will lock back, but not forward. This is the exact opposite of what you would expect from a shotgun.

The description and picture make no sense. Theres nothing to rotate. All you have to do is pull the bolt a bit and pull hard on the charging handle.

Let me know if you have any success that way. I dont even want a good bolt release. Just one that I can use with one hand.

I hear you, and I know exactly what you mean. I put oversized releases on my competition semis, I like a real smooth buttery bolt release. If fact, this particular gun would look really good with an oversized release on it. Hopefully they end up putting out some bits and pieces for these. Well that and parts kits. I'm going to use one of those two sided mini hammers, just use the tougher rubber until I can use the softer one. Will also let me get familiar with the operation a lot better.

Yes they fit, but there is the lock mechanism in there and they hang out a fair bit, I assume the holes were done for weight reduction and not extra shell holders, but yes 2-3 rounds will fit in them.

Correct, but my M3 clone is the same so I was anticipating it. The M3 has a spring loaded rotational latch for the pump/auto selector. Was really finagley when I got it, I think I had to use the mallet to get it to release the first couple of times.

My mistake, only one of those holes is clear for a shell, the one closest to the pistol grip. It would suck as a match saver, and I gotta be honest, as someone who ran a lot of shotgun courses, I wouldn't be using this in any matches. Pretty much just "one on hand in case of night bumps or Gypsies.

You think these are actually good? $1000 + for this is a total joke. It should at least work.

We used to have modern cool guns that worked out of the box, but evidently that is no more, just like the hobby in general.

So I stripped it down some more and looked at that bolt release. It's a really odd design. The release itself is fairly loose, it's the way they've retained the button and the leaf spring, it is twice as hard as it needs to be in order to release, but I don't think it's unfixable. I'll have this back together tonight and see.

I HIGHLY suggest stripping this down as much as possible. I don't know what that shipping oil is but it's tacky. I had to use grease cutter on some of it, and a bunch of G96. I could absolutely see these not running well in the cold, it's like they put bar/chain oil in it, or maybe some sort of cosmoline/wax mix. Very likely have to keep this well oiled to keep any rust out of all the nooks and crannies, but use a good quality oil.

I'm going to stare at this release and see what part is not flexible enough. I can see maybe the need to bend the leaf spring (or retainer whatever it is), a bit.
