Yeah, nope. 2 3/4 inch chamber and pretty full choke so I wouldn't use steel.
I did some reading about the action, and used Claude to answer some other questions, none of my buddies have any kind of Mauser or Husqvarna, so I figured I'd ask here. What I read mentioned weaker actions on the small ring Husqvarna 16XX series rifles vs commercial 98, others mentioned the thinner Husqvarna barrels didn't hold up as well as the thicker FN or Mauser barrels. I didn't think it would be an issue but figured I'd check in on here.

The Husqvarna 1600 series action is not a weak action. I wouldn't worry about it at all.
All the Husqvarna's with a 98 style action used FN actions and are very well made. Any of them in good condition would be a fine choice.
The only Mauser's in 30-06 I personally would avoid, are the Stiga's and such that use a M96 action. They're strong enough for sure but just aren't as good an action as the M98 or 1600 series.

What is your problem man, what did I do to you to be such a dlck?? I had a few and still have a few Husqvarna and I never had a problem with them, I’m lucky maybe.DoGY has one. What an endorsement. I'd go for it right away.

OP - Since you are relying on the internet to make an informed purchase... The older huskies with the FN action have a fixed floorplate, and were not D+T'd at the factory. The newer Husky 1640's with the Husky action are D+T'd and have a hinged floorplate.
D+T'ing a receiver is not a simple job, best done with a jig, and often requiring specialized drill bits/reamers.

Your not lucky, I've bought and handled dozens of these rifles in the last decade, I have nothing but good to say about them. Tradex and Intersurplus have described and pictured thier rifles well, I've always opted for ones in original configuration or with minimal modifications. These ones have ran around 395$.....if one opted for the lesser ones, with issues or cracks in the stock the ads made it known. Riversrest sounds like a troll and probably didn't do his due diligence when he bought his.
I also had a EXACT twin Bro to my 280 AI in 6.5x284 Norma only difference was the stock color ! the 6.5x284 was more accurate then the 280 AI . Should have kept it I

There are no absolute guarantees in this life.
Intersurplus supplies pictures and "descriptions" of each rifle. They also under represent condition IMHO, and the rifles I've seen are "better" than described.
If a rifle's condition is listed as FAIR or GOOD only, pass and move to something Very Good or Better.
You will get what you pay for.
The commercial Husqvarna, FN actions were at one point considered to be the best in the world, and every other manufacturer had to strive to get to the same level or exceed it. Most opted for gloss over better function.
Again, just IMHO, you may want to look out for rifles with "double set triggers" which if set up properly can be very hard to beat, even with some of the best modern after market triggers set up for hunting use.
Some of the rifles are offered with vintage scopes which will be luck of the draw, as far as quality goes.

I bought a beautiful little Husky SXS with an underlever for opening the action. Made in the early 1930s, and marked Spezial Stahl. Somewhere in it's history, someone opened up the chambers with a forcing cone reamer, and it will chamber any 12 ga cartridge offered, even 3 1/2in.
One barrel is cyl bore, and the other is modified.
I haven't shot any 3.5in out of it, because recoil is brutal, but I've shot everything else, including steel, with no issues.
I hope nobody here is interested in selling you a used car/truck or anything else, because you are the type that will come back on them for the rest of their lives, for anything that goes wrong, including wear on the tires, for that length of time.
Most likely his budget won't allow for a relatively hard to find rifle, unless you order a new one.
I will not purchase a "left hand" rifle from an estate or any other place, simply because they are a very difficult sell.
I’ve bought and sold dozens of LH rifles. His budget is far better off with a rifle that is essentially turn key.
Nothing therein to do with luck. I had three, sold one (just wasn't shooting the 9.3 too often), and will never sell the two I have left. They're great rifles. 1" at 100, dinner plate at 300.
And riversrest can be a d!ck if he wants to. It's on him, not on the rifles. Perhaps he just doesn't know how to buy stuff?
Another upvote for Husqvarna actions from me. Anything 1640 and earlier would do you just dandy, and for a reasonable price too. One word of caution is that depending on how you mount your scope, the butterfly safety might interfere with using it. I wouldn't worry about buying anything from Intersurplus. I have bought 4 guns from hem, and they were all 100% in accordance with (or better than) the description.
