Cheap partners

I moved provinces a few years ago and lost my 2 trusted partners. I'm in QC and don't know too many guys, plus my French isn't great either. It takes time to find a new trusted group but I don't give up hope. Meanwhile I hunt alone or with some occasional weekend warrior.
You should ask if they vote BLOC first.

ok really what is up with all the gloves and paper towel stuff.... bare handed, clean your hands with some snow or in the near by water puddle. wipe knives clean on pant leg. Wash up everything when you get near a lake.
lol 😂- maybe they check prostrates if the hunting is slow?😳

Anyway, I’m with you. Bare hands, I usually have a bottle of water in my pack….

Then again, it’s in PQ, so probably need gloves…

Things concerning money and who pays for what need to be worked out before the trip !
I don’t like CHEAP meaning providing for someone else while they get a free ride
It’s not CHARITY which is something totally different .
Sure things get forgotten by one party that’s also different as long as it’s not a habit

I can understand why that bothers you. I have experienced similar. Ultimately you have to decide whether these partners are worth the mooching or not. Personally, I would just bring enough for myself next time, and when someone asks, just tell them you also use them and brought just one for yourself.

If you can share the animal, you can share the tools. Make them cover other costs associated to the hunt to level it out. Gas, groceries. Cutting and wrapping. Nitrile gloves are like $0.08 per pair and a roll of paper towel is $2. Don’t ruin a good thing over the price of a small coffee.

Unless the OP’s buddies have started a thread that reads “we hunt with the most considerate dude!”….=time for a course correction.

I lost my closest friend/hunting buddy to pancreatic cancer years ago, I’d give anything to spend just 1 more day in the field with him. Miss him every day.

If those words don’t resonate, maybe hunt solo a bit until the options improve. I’m grateful to have 2 excellent, and generous hunting buddies now. Not convinced I deserve them, but I feel blessed .

I pay for all the supplies and material we need to keep our hunting camp running, a couple days before the hunt I add everthing up and send the guys a bill for their eqaul share, been doing this for 40 years and never a problem. Mind you we are three close friends and our sons, i am truly blessed also.

I don't know if I'm just unlucky, but with two exceptions, my hunting partners have been extremely cheap.

I like to plan ahead and make sure I have all the supplies I think we'll need. When I ask the guys I hunt with if they want to split the cost of these supplies, they say no because they don't need them.

Then hunting day comes, and guess what? They're suddenly asking if they can borrow latex gloves, soap, paper towels, and so on.

I know these things aren't expensive, but what I don't understand is why people are unwilling to contribute to the cost but have no problem using everything for free.

Does anyone else experience this, or am I just unlucky with my hunting partners?

And of course they don’t have a tarp because I always bring and extra one.
ONCE.

Story:
2 fishing buddies. One has a full tackle box. The other has a pole, a hook, a dozen worms. Soon you HAVE to see it coming.

Well now, I don't know... those things get MIGHTY EXPENSIVE down at THIS end of the lake.. but if you really need it I could sell ya one of MINE.

There might be another side of the medal, and here is what it could be:

The hunting buddies have a different view of things.

They claim that this hunting partner plans everything over the top, not just the necessary amount, but double and triple of every item.

They say that before every hunting trip, he goes on extensive shopping sprees and comes back with ridiculous amounts, huge piles of items which are not required and which will last for several hunting season.

To make things worse, he asks us to pay for his extravagant hoarding outbursts.

What do you think, does he have a problem?
I think you are one of the cheapskates he's talking about. I doubt he's running out to get everyone matching sitka suits. That would be extravagant. But things like fuel and necessary essentials are far from extravagant and should be split.

Went up north with 2 of buddies about 30 years ago. A guy I grew up with wanted to come as well. Told my buddies the guy loved to hunt and has killed a lot of game. We get up there to find out he never brought any booze but was sure happy to drink everyone else’s whiskey. First and last time I ever went with him.
