180gr CoreLockt In a 30-30

Could just be me being dumb but if they're for shooting game with, I'd be a bit worried its like the edge of the performance window if they were loaded in 308 win or 30-06. If its down as low as 1600 fps no big deal but if its like 1800 etc...thats pretty close if you end up with a muzzle velocity of 2100 fps. Might be just about a no-go by the time they hit 100 yards.

Round noses are pretty soft tho usually

What velocities are those made to expand at? Wouldn't that be pretty much on the bottom edge?
Exactly. Probably engineered for 30-06 velocities. Might not expand from a 30-30.
I'm starting a Speer Speer 150gr spitzer load for my Henry single shot. I wouldn't go heavier unless it was a bullet specifically designed for a 30-30.

Looks like it is a very questionable idea.

Tend to think so...tempted to say its simulating a 300+ yard shot with a 30-06 when it gets to 100 yards....which is still effective, but...

If the minimum velocity is 1600 fps and you're getting there with 1800, I wouldn't worry about it that much. But I'd want to know.

Expected MV would be maxed out at 2100 fps.
125 yards is about 1600 fps.

Some 170 grain factory ammo is 2200 fps at the muzzle as well, so the idea isn't totally out to lunch, with the right bullet.

Could stamp that round nose with a Phillips screwdriver... ;)

Yup key isn't the bullet weight or caliber. Key is its meant to be used in 30-06 etc

On the OTHER side of things, always wondered why people who want to shoot 150gr bullets from their 7.62x39 use spitzers made to work at higher velocities instead of flat nosed bullets used for its near ballistic twin, the 30-30

The key is the Phillps screwdriver! :) ;)

No comment on 7.62X39 shooters...
