My Norinco Type 97 Shorty - Range Report Post # 80!!!!

Great info and pics!!

For the red dot that won't break the bank, you might want to consider the OKO and the SPOT III (generic version of the Burris XTS). The OKO is a great sight (2 in my safe). The last one had pretty good review on the AR-15.com

Although pricey, the Aimpoint micro would be perfect on this gun.
I have one, and it works great on anything from my Benelli M4, to my Swiss Arms CQB or my Beretta CX4...small, low mounting axis, light.
I have a Tavor somewhere in the pipeline, but must admit, I am intrigued by this bullpup as well. Just when my 'gun account' was starting to grow!!

Good review!

A question:

is there anything on the RS rail to prevent it from sliding backward? Two screws on top is kind of less solid.

Cheers,

Michael

Oh....my bad.....the recoil will make it go forward...is there any thing stop it from going forward?

Nope - just pressure.... that being said, I have a 303 with tip off mounts on a weaver spo1 rail and it doesn't move and all. This is a .223... this mount aint gonna move unless you hit it with a big hammer. Also, any scope I know of is mounted by pressure (the rings)....I'm not worried that it will work OK for my uses. Would I like something better, yes, but I'm not storming a bunker or gun butting some terrorist in the chops with it. I'm shooting at the range and waiting for the zombies to come over the hill:runaway:

So does this thing take AR mags?

It took STANAG mags, so AR15 mags is a go....... although some Type 97 owners claimed that Magpul's PMAG does not work for unspecified reasons....

BTW how's quality of the mags that came with it? How does it compare to other metallic AR mags?

The Norc mags are Tanks. They use thicker steel or something....I'd buy them over regular Ar mags any day, The one exception is that they don't work in other AR's. I haven't quite figured out why yet but they don't - they must be slightly out of spec. The salesman explained that this is standard communist thinking in that on the battlefield the Chinese could pic up and use our mags but we couldn't pick up and use theirs:rolleyes:. Not so sure about that, but they only work in the type 97. All other AR mags work in my norinco though. The ten round mag I picked up worked great.
