went out to the range yesterday, i had moved my scope back about 2 inches, so I needed to resight the rifle. Scope fell off last fall! and i put it back on way too far forward. My groups before making the scope adjustments were all over - i dont think i could get consistent posture because the scope was set too far forward.

Now that I moved the scope, and got it sighted in at 100 yds. I am grouping about 2 - 3 MOA @ 100yds. I am using 180g winchester super x bullets. Is this good for this rifle?

I just cleaned it all up and got the patches to come out clean. First couple groups were bigger, but after 12 rounds the groups were all consistant at 2-3 MOA with the occasional user error flyer.

I get around 2 MOA with that ammo out of my No.4 Mk.1, shoot a few boxes through the rifle and once its good and fouled it might shoot even better haha, it's a battle rifle after all.

From what I hear that's about right. Mine seem to shoot a bit more consistently after being heated up with a few rounds of fouling in the bore. On that note, good god the last batch of Federal ammo I had was the nastiest barrel griming crud I've ever seen. Ten rounds of that and it was worse and took longer to clean then a whole day of Winchester rounds. I might just save the other box and a half to use for "priming" aka fowling the barrel before I shoot some good ammo.

What kind of scope & mount? From what I read on here, 2-3 MOA seems average.

scope is a bushnell scope chief VI, rings are weaver tip off's - probably from the 60's, and the base only has t01 stamped into it so I don't know.

i think im pretty happy with the accuracy at this time. I think I need more training on how to shoot properly before my groups will get much tighter.

2 moa on a 60 year old battle rifle that has led a fairly rough life is actually pretty darn good when you think about it. I have managed to convince myself that a good marksman with properly developed handloads could get 1 MOA out of my Custom no 4 Parker Hale. It may be wishfull thinking but it does have a very nice PH barrel. If anyone wants to crush my fantasy I will understand.

I remeber me getting about 3" at 100 yards out of my sporter #1 Mk3 with generic red dot for sights and factory loaded 180gr ammo.

My JC shoot consistently under 2MOA with iron sights and factory ammo. It is actually second JC that I had my hands on and that other one was under 2MOA as well. Under 2" is very good on my books. At 100yards its hard to see target so those 2MOA could be actually 1 MOA with scope. But I do not want scope, its way too much fun shooting it with irons. I hope u guys understand.

Ljungman on the other hand was shooting over 2.5MOA with irons.

Weaver T-01 Base and Weaver tip off rings too then. Going to be using the same rings and mounts myself, so I was curious if you were using the same.

yeah im keeping them on there. seem to work fine. i would like one of the xs scout mounts so i can use clips, but thats not a big deal at all.

i find it hard to keep the pressure the same between the 2 screws on the tip-off rings, and mine is quite old and requires some loctite to keep the screws in securely. I don't want a repeat of last fall when my scope fell right off as i was heading out for opening day of dear season!

This is what I got sighting in my Sporterized N1 MkIII

.303 British
Remington Core-Lokt 180gr
100 yards
