Will you be able to participate and how many in your group?

Looks like a nice place to camp and I'm glad to see that the area is not as flat as Manitoba (boring). Here's the ammo I'll be bringing for my wife and I to shoot.

Gopher pills update.
I'm still buying another couple of hundred rounds of .223, more Walmart 12 ga shot shells and then I have to start buying .17 HMR.
I should be all set soon.

We are 2 seniors from Edmonton, retired parks official and biologist.
We would love to use our rimfires to shoot an excellent gopher patch in Saskatchewan. To make it worthwhile for us to go al that distance, there got to be one hell of a big pile of gophers, like thousands/tenthousands.
Are there that many gophers around where you are?
Would you let us shoot for a couple of days on your property?
We be staying overnite in the nearest town motel.
Don and Hendrik would appreciate hearing from you.
Thank you for your time.

As the day draws nearer and nearer we become better prepared. I just picked up our tent, and man are we going to be roughing it with this one. Bare bones, that's what I say. It's only 12x18 feet in size:

And it's barely up to par, what with only minimum wiring for household current! :D

Yup, I'm a big suck. If I'm going to sleep in a tent, damnit, it's going to be the Hilton or nothing!
:D :D :D

The timing might be working to our advantage. I saw my first litter of the year in town today. I figure we are a week or two ahead of the surrounding country, in theory at least. Were about 6 weeks away, so provided the farmers don't poison them, it should be a good shoot.

So who all is coming (I'm not quite sure my wife and I made the list) and what is the plan?

Will we organize for group cooking or fend for ourselves? I'm hoping there will be some water available as I thought I saw mentioned earlier.

My wife and I have planned to be there for the weekend and have the following two weeks off. I think we may stay in SK, hopefully in a nice provincial park, and do some more shooting during the week. Can anyone recommend a nice place to camp in southern SK?

We'll be bringing our cool little camper (1964 vintage) and all our camping gear. If I have time I'll make a keg of beer for the group. Don't worry, it's better than store bought.

I think Pharoah is putting together the "list" so will probably be able to post it soon so we can get a final RSVP from everyone that already said they are going....this way if anyone backs out we can open it up to the next person in line.

Water....
BRING YOUR OWN DRINKING WATER!!!!!

The water where we are going is unsuitable for drinking or cooking!!

Seeing that I live in Speedy and recently found I have that weekend off work I might be able to attend for part of the weekend. I will not be able to know for sure until the date is near. I would not need to camp out there anyway.

If you guys are short of land to shoot on or are looking for permission you might want to try this idea: The local AM country radio station is often littered with radio ads looking for people to come and shoot gophers on their land. Some even offer food and bullets if you come and shoot on their land. The radio classifieds are called the trading post and it is a 30 miniute live show from 11:30 am to 12 noon weekdays on CKSW. A quick web search will lead you to their website and you can email or fax an advertisement into the radio station, or call in at that time if you want to be heard on the radio. You may want to consider a day trip to the Pontiex area, they are plagued there.

The Co-oP here in the Swift Current Mall often has the best prices on Federal rimfire ammo. As mentioned before Walmart, Canadian tire and Bender's Gun and Archery (still not recommended) are the other sources. If any of you guys are travelling down through the Leader area there is a good shop up there as well, Doug Rayner is the guys name and he is in the book.

And for you guys that were silly enough to post pictures of your ammo stores, not even close... I went out on Monday and it was really windy. The gophers did not seem to mind, it was hot out anyway. I went out after lunch, shot 300+ rounds through the 17HMR and 300 rounds through the 223. I had to come home early because I ran out of ammo. The gophers stood atop the hill and laughed in a victorious ceremony as I left the warfield. I was probably only hitting 50% with the 17 because of the wind but hitting well over 90% with the 223.

The first batch of 'invite's' is out. If you recieved one, please let either myself or C2K know of your intentions to attend. If you do not wish or cannot attend, please also let us know promptly so the next people in line can be given the chance to come. No real preferance has been made as to who can come and who cannot, it was first come, first serve. Anyone who wishes to come please feel free to let us know by still responding to this thread, and for anyone who says they will not come, that's one more spot available.

Also, if we do not recieve word within a week or so, we will assume those who have not responded do not wish to attend, and preference will be given to the next person. Please let us know if you still wish to attend though, as there may still be room and you were first on the list. Thanks everyone.

Well no invite for us. Perhaps someone will drop out.

We've booked the holidays and the gophers are there so we're looking for a place to stay. Is Cypress Hills Provincial Park a nice place to camp?
