I have a standard Lee volume powder dispenser from the 50th kit.

I found this dispenser give +/- 0.15~0.2 gr weight change.

How about yours?

True accuracy + RCBS Chargemaster. You will happily throw your tricklers, dispensers and balance beams away after trying one of these!

Regards,

No kiddin'. I recently purchased a Chargemaster. I can reload as much in one evening as I did in 4. Accurate too. But I wouldn't throw away the other stuff as the balance beam is good to double check the Chargemaster. Also, if you're going to just load up a few rounds for load development, the balance beam and trickler are still keepers.

Extruded powders make volumetric measure less accurate than with ball powders. The kernels shear in the measure and cause variations in the weights. I also have and love my CMC, but if you allow the thrown charge to settle on the scale for 5 seconds after the tone has gone off, you will find that 20-30% of charges are over by more than a tenth of a grain. This is due to the tendency to clump a bit more when trickling. Ball powders are amazingly accurate to measure though.

The over-throw isn't a problem, I just use my coke spoon to remove sufficient powder and you actually develop a pretty good sense for exactly how many kernels you need to remove. It's when you snort a line of Varget that you feel really stupid.

natchez shooter supply in the US. $279.99 (Got mine on sale for $257 I believe)

I just ordered one, I figured by the time I drove to Calgary with the wife and kids it would cost me approx $700.

$450 + GST + 20 L Diesel @ $1.40/L + food and assorted other stops= $700+

So the $300 shipped to my door is a fricken steal.

I have an RCBS dispenser. I measured it's accuracy with Unique powder using both a balance beam, and a digital scale. I could be plus or minus .8 grains either way from what I "set" it to. That's a 1.6 grain window. Not the most accurate thing on earth. It usually hit within .4 grains either way, but once in a while it could be 0.8 gr high or 0.8 gr low. Every sweep of the arm was the same, and this was done with a full powder hopper.

Edit: I should note. Most of the measuring was done with my digital scale which matches up exactly with my balance beam scale. I tried well over 100 measurements.

I have had an RCBS powder measure for years, just started using it a few years ago. There is a slight variance in the thrown charges but I have yet to see it on paper at 100m.. I have just ordered the micro adjuster for easy repeatability.

Pouring minimum loads of flake powder like HP38 for 9mm (4.1 gr) Hornady 115 gr XTP FP on a Dillion 550B this afternoon was all over the map, but for 38 special (3.7 gr) & Hornady 158 gr XTP HP it was bang on. I suspect weather has something to do with it :-/

Edited to say, I don't try to max out loads but wouldn't depend on any powder measure that gives that much variability (+/- 0.2 gr) if I did.

I am using the Hornady case activated powder measure, and have measured many loads in the last week.

I have yet to see a variation of more than +/- 0.1 grains, using HP38 powder. I figure that was acceptable, but now I am thinking that is really good for a powder measure, and I should maybe check it more often??

RCBS electronic scale and some version of one of there electronic powder dispensers is the way to go for fast accurate loads

Yah so it might cost $800 but can you put a price on accuracy and bragging rights?

You get the RCBS setup and easy metering powder like H335, IMR 4895, and your set !

I have had mine now for about 5+ years love it...

I was talking with a master reloader that ran a ammo plant here in canada for winchester today at the range... he was impressed with the quality of my ammo

Pistol rounds I just use a case activated powder dropper for Pistol and AR rounds basically things you like to blast fast then you reload.

Every once in awhile I feel it would be nice to be more mechanized and get something like the Chargemaster. The price, however, stops me cold. I think the best buy I have made for loading is my electronic scale and a standardized set of weights in grains to check it. As time goes by I am using my Lee dipper set more and more often. I get a dipper that is close, then trickle in the rest from the reloaded dipper. Sometimes I use a metal device shaped in a V and tapered at one end that was used for trickling stuff into beam balances in chemistry lab (Never thought of using a Coke tube though...maybe Obtunded has something there:)). I'm sure I am a little slower than devices like the Chargemaster and I'm positive that I am more fatigued after loading. But the price!!! I don't think a guy should have to adjust individual loads at all for the price you are paying either. Think I will stay jealous...and slow:) fred
