This question may have been asked many times, but I didn't find satisfactory answers in existing threads.

There are 2 schools of thought: Red Dot and Ghost rings.

I read that some Red Dot users complained that they had to reset the zero because the recoil moved the dot off target, Red Dot manufacturers claim that their Red Dot sights are made for Shotguns, etc..

As for the ghost rings they look full proof, but the thing I don't like is having to take the shotgun to a gunsmith and pay in order to have the rear sight properly fixed on the receiver. I'd rather have a sighting system I could put on the gun myself. But then again, they may not be a way around it.

From experience (meaning what you used or are using and not what you read about) what is the best sighting system for a tactical shotgun? By best I mean: keeps it's zero, is durable and easy to use at close range, and by tactical shotgun I mean no choke tube, for CQB and not for hunting... for example a Rem 870 Tactical (which is the one I have).

Ghost rings on my tactical shotgun and on my bear rifles.

Fast, reliable, no batteries.

If money is no object you can get these LPA sights installed along with a picatinny rail so you can add optics later.

Yeah, like the Benelli M4 :D

Just beware, the LPA sights are pretty low profile, so you probably wont be able to get any sort of co-witness if you put a red-dot on top also (if that matters to you)

I have Fabarms Martial Proforce with fiberoptic ghost ring and front sight... I love it. I was originally thinking for my 870 that I was going to want a red dot, but after using the ghost ring setup... that's what I'll be putting on my 870 as well.

I have not used red dots on my shotgun so I can't speak to their effectiveness (although it always looked to me that it'd be heard to get a good cheek weld with them) but I really like the Trijicon tritium ghost rings I've got on mine. I know how you feel--I had reservations as well about sending my shotgun away, but I had heard good things about Tactical Ordnance in Newmarket--I sent it off this time last year and was really pleased with the quick turnaround time. The sights are really solid, allow a good cheek weld, and they're both easy to pick up and allow for accurate shooting with slugs.

Tritium Dot

Haven't tried them yet but there's the large tritium bead sights from Marbles and Meprolight (I think) that you should be able to mount yourself. No batteries, simple, light, no drill and tap.

Best sight for 'tactical' shotgun.....?

.....is the best sight you can shoot quick and effectively with.

Most people will like ghost rings but there are plenty of people comfortably shooting with just a bead or some sort of fiberoptic tube or for old school bubbas...even a vented rib.

Whatever works best for you. Hell even instinctual shooting.....

hey zykopat,

so I decided to go with the Trijicon Night Sight Ghost Ring Set. A bit cheaper then what you went with but Ill tell you how they are when I get it put on. Keep us updated on how you like your sights, I might buy those if I really dont like what I got.

cheers

Thats the same thing as what he got....

Close, the Trijicon has tritium inserts on the ring, the Scattergun does not.

Sorry, on the rear ghost ring peep?

I stole this picture from Tac Ord, I am sure Casey wont mind tho. Those are the Scattergun Tech marked that most defiantly have the two dots on the rear and single dot on the front. Both the sets I have also have the trijicon dots in them.

They are the same thing. Made by Trijicon but the Scatterguns are marked as so as thats what they put on their in house modified 870s.

These are the Trijicons and this is the Wilson aka Scatterguns. Show me that the difference is other than a stamp mark on the side.

Other than the placement of the Trijicon marks in the first and second pictures, there is NO difference that I have seen and can see. Someone please correct me if I am wrong instead of imagining a few small differences.

Yep on the rear peep. Well you can get the inserts as an option (I checked the Brownells site), but the one I have does not have the inserts. The Trijicon are like 40$ cheaper than the Scattergun with the rear inserts... don't know why...
