2 Deer. One shot. UHH OHHHHHH!!!!!!!

And I said not everywhere and then you "qualified" it with "big game in Canada". Actually hailing from PEI I do know the difference between NS and NB but made an honest mistake.

You may even be right with big game in Canada (since some regulation publications do not list that prohibition while the actual Wildlife Act does) but not with "everywhere".

Anyway, if you can conclusively prove me wrong (happens once a decade at least) I will honour your achievement by naming my first born after you.

It may be kind of traumatic since we've been calling him Aidan for the past nine years.

P.S. Since you're in Calgary, it's probably not a good idea t distance yourself from the "rednecks".

We own this province.

Come over to the dark side.

You'll like it.

A lot.

So a patched round ball out of a muzzleloader or steel shot out of a shotgun are out ? Them laws sure can be strangely written sometimes ...

here's an exerpt from the Nova Scotia Wildlife Act

Prohibited weapons

81 Every person is guilty of an offence who uses or possesses, in a wildlife habitat, any

(a) automatic firearm;

(b) prohibited or restricted firearm, except under the authority of the Criminal Code (Canada);

(c) firearm which has been altered to operate as an automatic firearm;

(d) bullet of a tracer or incendiary type;

(e) arrow equipped with an explosive type of head of any description or tipped or carrying any poison or drug of any description;

(f) full metal cased non-mushrooming or non-expanding bullet or ball; or

(g) item prescribed by regulation. R.S., c. 504, s. 81.

Now if you'd like to keep arguing be my guest...i did my homework..you did not and they are illegal to hunt big game with....and in Nova Scotia you cannot step one foot in the woods with FMJ in your weapon..that's how dangerous people like you are..flapping off at the gums and giving people bad advice which could result in serious fines, loss of vehicles, etc. etc.

here's the url of the full Wildlife Act.

http://www.gov.ns.ca/legislature/legc/statutes/wildlife.htm

Rob i think they mean ball like the military calls it...FMJ is called ball..but who knows? i've never hunted with a muzzleloader there..i do know that slugs are definitely allowed and it states it somewhere..maybe in the regulations..you are not allowed to use buckshot..just slugs.

Lead balls from a muzzleloader are not jacketed. The lead is totally exposed so any restriction on FMJ does not apply. Same with a lead slug. No jacket so it can't be Full Metal Jacketed.

Lead round balls do expand actually to quite an impressive diameter. Same goes for Maxi balls.

I say bull####, I don't think there were 2 deer killed. If you look at that both end up in the exact position. I think some computer whiz skillfully doubled the image of the deer that was shot, to make it look like two went down at once.

I am with you something seems not quite right...

hmm you can see the white underbelly of the 2nd deer though and the first one you'd have to be on the other side of where they are filming in order to see that if they just did a mirror and flipped? hard to tell

Watch the newly linked full version. I bet the one you saw was the one they cut off early. I just noticed yesterday that the vid seemed shorter after the shot.

now while both of em are yabbering about how lucky the shooter is for getting two, both those deer are twitching and shaking in pain because they're still alive.

would you walk up to them right away and finish them off with another shot or is it normal to let em twitch away like that? sorry this question speaks of my inexperience, but I would get up there and take the next shot as soon as I could.

Damned right! No need to watch em suffer!
If you can safely take a kill shot after that then who cares if you have a tag for the second animal. It's not going to the hospital for a lung transplant. End its pain and call the MNR and let em know what you gone dunn! I've heard they can be pricks but i think in this case you may get a whole lot of understanding from most. Especially if you "self report"

When the wave of 20+ wild turkey came in on opening day this year i sat and watched for what seemed forever until i could get a clean shot where i knew i wouldn't "pepper" another gobbler.

Depends. The front deer was down and out and needed the time to bleed out -- most deer do. They can sometimes run a hundred yards with no lungs or heart.

The back deer was a spine shot (or perhaps merely spine shocked) deer (head up front legs scrambling). That one I would keep the gun on, wait for it to calm down and then try to get close for a finisher in the head or a throat cut. If it looked like it was regaining control of its rear legs I'd give it another in the body.

Rushing up on a poorly hit deer may cause it to jump and run. Not charging out allows the deer to calm down and bleed out and die closer to you.

Every situation is different though.
