.375 Ruger

On a side note. While I have been tempted to get a .375 Ruger I've heard whisperings of a .416 Ruger. This could very much upset the apple cart when Gatehouses king is dethroned. :p

Very true, when I talked with Craig Boddington at the Ruger Shot Show release of the 30 and 338 RCM, he said that everyone was figuring on the 416 R being the first spin off from the new case, not the two small cartridges.

Don't think I would even look at a 416 Ruger either...

In order to get any kind of performance say 400gr @ 2300fps you would have to load up to pressures that would be on the high side due to the limited capacity of the case.

Another issue is I feel that the neck maybe to short for positive bullet retention which for me anyway would be very important.

No if you are going to go with a 416 you should be looking at a case that can give 2400fps with a 400gr bullet @ acceptable pressures and then be able to reduce it to 2300fps if that is the veocity that you want.

My understanding is that the Ruger has slightly less capacity than the .416 Rem. For sure more than a Taylor. It should be a 2400/400 gr round no problem. My Rem. mag goes past 2400 fps. with no pressure at all. Back to the 375s. I've had the H&H, JRS, Ackley and 378. To me the H&H will always be king. If you're talking speed/capacity then its 378.

Well there you have it. I'm sure Ruger will give your opinion all the consideration it deserves.

The .416 Ruger has already been done by wildcatters and apparently is to be chambered by Ruger in the not so distant future.

Of course, it will be very difficult for a .416 cartridge to dethrone the King of the .375's...Since a .416 isn't a .375:p:D

Congratulations in all the time I have been here I have only put 2 other idiots on my ignore list your now # 3... :dancingbanana:

What a moron...

WHAT?!?! I was but bowing to your incredible proficiency, as I'm sure Ruger will as well.:slap: Why once word gets back to them of your grand postulation, I'm positive they'll scrap the whole project. Funny that they even started without asking you..... Crazy of them when you think about it.:runaway:

There's nothing wrong with the 375 Ruger cartridge. However, to think it will dethrown the .375 H&H is hilarious at best. Keep your fingers crossed for the next several years before you know if this cartridge survives the longevity test. My gut feel says it will be as popular as the .307 Winchester. Time will tell.

416 Taylors make 2400 fps with 400gr bullets, I'm sure the Ruger, with the larger case capacity, would have no problem doing that, with no pressure issues. :)

Honestly I kinda wonder why any of you respond to him if you guys dislike him so much? Why feed the fire?

It's kinda like mowing the lawn and there's a pile of dog crap on it, if you keep ignoring it, eventually it will fade away.

Yo dawg! Only if you want the .375H&H! Ruger is only putting the H&H cartridge in their M-77 Safari magnum and that is up around of $2000.
A M-700 XCR is a fair option.
Browning? What's that!? ;)

You are right about one thing; Ruger has priced the Hawkeye .375R extremely attractively. Personally, I think it's a helluva buy.

I would buy a good used .375H&H in a CZ-550, ZKK-602, M-70 or maybe a M-700 Classic.

If I did not already own an M70 in .375 H&H, I certainly would have gone for the CZ550. And, I'll even admit that I certainly would entertain the Hawkeye in .375R. :) I've "touched" a .375 A Bolt....

Hey I wonder if the 307 will make a resurgence with the new interest in levers and the new ammo for them?

Well, I have 2 observations after reaing this thread.

1. Noel has a Ruger 375 now and therefore has no use for his 9.3x62, which he will no doubt sell to me for a decent price.

2. You still have to read a tonne of BS to learn one usefull thing on the internet.

1. Wrong, Nugget has a Ruger. It is fun but I have no current plans for one.
1B, the 9,3x62 has been gone for 2 1/2 months. It went to the guy who I beat to it by ten minutes as promised when I found out he missed it. Just cuz I am a nice guy.;)

2. You are totally right on this one and I have no doubt anything will change.:p

By the way, I still have your brass and the 9,3 dies. You are welcome to come over and make medicine any time.;) The basement may even be done when you stop by next! :)
