Stag Arms - New Compensator ?

Gents:

Noise with short barrels, noise seems to always be an issue. While I have no first hand experience, might I suggest you all have a good hard look at the Levang Linear comp. Directs blast forward and way instead of to the sides, and I have heard many good things about them.

I built a friend and 11.5 upper with one. Needs some testing but I think I may have a winner.

Looks like this:

Just my thoughts.

I have a 10.5 and its plenty loud with reduced hand loads normally around 18 grains, I have been thinking of upgrading my hearing protection because when firing it on the indoor range its still quite loud with muffs... might try muffs and plugs but it might be the concussion from the muzzle blast too.

I think JP enterprise makes a forward direction break too... be interested to know about the felt recoil directing the gas forward instead of up and back.

Complaining about noise at a firing range is like complaining about the smell of grease at the McDonald's!
Agreed......:D

However, the Stag compensator (and similar of its type) really are nasty when other shooters are less than 2m on either side. Even on the 200yd range, shooters 20m away from me can only shoot between my groups. Just a matter of time before the board at our club will clamp down on compensators; they're really disruptive, especially when the bench-rest guys are trying to work-up loads.

Doesn't anyone make something that can replace it? Keep in mind that these new comps are "pinned" with an upper & lower roll-pin; there are no threads on the new export barrels from Stag. Pain in the a$$ if you ask me........

Get the barrel threaded.

I was speaking with Arms East last week about that, and I was told they will thread a barrel for $65.

Might be something to look into.

I have the same compensator on my rifle, there is a retaing screw, on there with lock tight. You have to heat the end of the barrell up with a torch, and break the locktight screw, then it will thread off just fine.
