Appreciation for Service Program for Canadian Forces Personnel

Discharge papers

If you were in the reserves (In my case the Navy) be prepared to provide a copy of your discharge papers to prove you served. I have written Public Archives for a copy of my service records in order to get on to the forum. Sorry but after 48 years and several moves, my discharge papers seem to have disappeared.

The Tac Five looks appealing.

I was in the army reserve from 1972 to 1977 and got no discharge papers. What then?

Para has been offering this for quite some time to units in the US, Police and military both. It is a really good deal and just coming on line in Canada probably due to the anti gun crowd trying to ban everything. Go to the 1911.org site for more info on this as it relates to the US, Para goes above and beyond.

By the way , anyone interested in a Afghanistan TF 1-07 run on these guns for those of us who were over there on the 2RCR BG tour? Once you are set up on the Para military only site you have more access to the different engravings offered to get more ideas for this pistol.

Umm Tac Five = IPSC Production That might be for me when I find my Honorable Discharge from the CF Naval Reserve (Roll on Wavy Navy).

Anybody able to post a price... or is this strictly top secret?

Join the Forum and find out, Para is doing, in my opinion a good thing recogizing those who are serving and those who have served. It is great to see a company doing this, I hope others follow their lead.

Posting the price on a public forum, I think is in bad taste and not in the spirit of the offer.

While this sounds like a great program, the fact that it's been offered for years south of the border bothers me. Are these guys ashamed of being Canadian or what? Why support others before your own?

Still, nice to see them offer something.

It took almost six months just to get permission from the CAF to use the name on the pistol. It takes two to tango and getting connected with the right person to promote the idea witin the military and then finding someone who will run with it isn't something you do just by picking up a phone. Don't be so quick to eat your own young. The deal is a nice gesture on Para's part, their way of saying thank-you for the service of our miltary personnel. If you are military or ex-military accept the gesture for what it is.

As SILLYMIKE eluded to, I was camping and didn't have internet access. Now that I am back, I will try to answer some of the questions that were raised while I was gone.

Deadline. While there is no deadline, the program will eventually end. The first run of pistols may be put into production as early As August. After that, I'm not sure when the next one will be.

Engraving. The slides are laser engraved. I have seen the prototypes and they are awsome. I knew we would never be able to satisfy everybody (or anybody for that matter) with the design that was chosen. That's why the maple leaf and "Canadian Forces" was chosen. If there are groups that want a different pistol with different engraving, that is possible. TF 1-08 is in the process of putting together their own pistol right now.

Who is eligible? Current and former members (Reg and Res) are eligible for the program. There are others (full time DND civilian employees, etc.. who will also be approved). The easiest way to join the program is to register at the Para's Military Only Forum using your @forces.gc.ca account. If you don't have a DWAN account, send your service or employment info to me at: cfparadeal@shaw.ca I will verify your eligibility and give you access to the forum. A scanned document or ID card e-mailed to me is good enough for access.

IPSC Legal? The Tac Five is not legal for Production Division in IPSC, check out the list of approved pistols on the Global Village:

South of the Border? Leg (http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/member.php?u=13249) is bothered by the fact that this program has been available in the US for years. Actually, Para started this program less than two years ago for a specific group of US soldiers. From that, the program continued slowly but recently has been steadily increasing and has continued to grow and gain momentum. I would estimate that more than 95% of Para's business is done in the US and while they are doing something good (for us), it's the companies bottom line that ultimately steers the ship and the programs they lean forward with. I was first approached last September to launch this program for the Canadian Forces and it has taken until now to get all my ducks in a row to ensure that nobody went to jail when the program was launched.

The rumour has it that their might be an ever slight possibility for a single stack to be offered... ( somewhere around 32 pistols is the breaking point for the rumour to turn into a reality)

Now, is there 31 other CGN intrested in a long slide single-stack 45acp :dancingbanana:

It's not very tacti-cool... but it would sure be fun (as a added bonus, it could share magazines with the other 1911 in the stable ;))

Otherwise, I think I'll end up with a TAC FIVE (Don't have a 1911 in 9mm, and I don't have a 1911 in LDA)

If you're looking for numbers, I just happen to be in the market for a new .45. Go figure, I purchased a bunch of ammo off a friend who was moving to Toronto and he didn't want to ship it. Now I have to buy a gun for the .45. Perhaps I should get my 9mm back from the Sgt Major some day too.

Cheers,
