Husqvarna rifles

Looks good and ready to rock and roll with the weaver mounts already on it. Does it have the steel or aluminum floorplate? "Baribal" might be able to date it for you if you supply the serial number.

Make sure you take the bolt apart for a good cleaning - mine had a lot of gunk inside. Its a bit trickier than the usual Mauser because you have to hold the cocking sleeve back without the wing safety.

The bedding was excellent on mine and in 6.5x55 with the heavy stock I worry less about recoil, but you might want to bed the action to give yourself insurance against the wood cracking. It seems to be a common problem, at least with the older Huskies.

PS Anthony has slings to fit these rifles too. They take a narrower sling than the standard type.

Recoil on a 6.5x55?

I believe they also chambered their 96 based actions in 9.3x62 as well. - dan

Okay, maybe I will ask you Dan.

I am interested in the idea of rechambering one of those Huskys from 9.3x57 to 9.3x62. But I would want the Mauser action. So far, I still do not know which ones are Mauser actions.
If you were going to do that mod, which of the Husky models listed would you consider?

Is a M-38 a Mauser?
Is a M-96 a Mauser?
Is a M-98 a Mauser?
Is a M-1600 a Mauser?
Is a M-98 FN a Mauser?
Is a Husqvarna Sporter a Mauser?
What is the difference between a Commercial Mauser and a Sporter?

All of the HVA Rifles with the exception of the 1900 are made on Mauser or Mauser variants. I'd just go with one of the Husqvarna 640 series already in 9.3x62 or one of the 1600 series. The Husqvarna 9.3x57 listed at Trade Ex are all built on either a M96 or M38 Commercial Actions, not Mil-surp. The FN M/98and HVA 1600 actions are stronger then the prior ones.

Wow

Wow wow wow, whats this about recoil now?? I thought you guys said this would be the perfect rifle with absolutely no flaws!! ::D Yes I understand its gonna kick somewhat in 30-06, yes that stock had no butt-pad either. I would have loved to pick up a 1640 with very nice heavier wood, but I couldnt find any on tradeex or they were rediculously overpriced!! How realistic is it to find decent aftermarket wood not in the lightweight configuration, sporter but maybe just heavier set stock and fore-arms??

savage-man

I have the exact same gun in 30/06 recoil is not bad same as any other 30/06 I have shot. I wouldn't worry too much about swapping out the stock they carry like a dream. If it becomes an issue just use a piece of foam or something under your jacket but I wouldn't alter that little beauty...

Yes, yes, yes, I don't know, yes, and, it can be, sometimes. Built purposely as a sporting rifle, vs. a military rifle that has been modified to sporter configuration. - dan

Hva..

Good, I have never shot a 30-06 before, as crazy as that sounds. I think I am just gonna bed the action, give it a good cleaning and shoot it till my arm falls off, or my bank account says otherwise!! Cant wait to get her out into the woods and see what she can do. Couple questions for ya:

1. What should I use to get the surface rust off the bolt and the other metal surfaces, there likely will be a bit of junk on it from what I can see.

2. How do you take the bolt apart to get a good cleaning done on it??

3. Are the slings that it requires smaller than normal size bought at any gun shop?? How are the slings at tradeex, any good??

The 1600 and the M98(with side safety) bolts come apart in pretty well the same manner. Go to post #4 in the link below for instructions on disassembly of a 98 bolt.

The Swede mausers are all miracles of engineering in good Swedish steel, the M-94, M-96 and M-38 #### on opening and the M-98 and all later derived models on closing. But you can't expect any of them to defy the basic laws of physics. For every action an equal and opposite reaction, that's just how nature works. A bad shaped stock can make things worse and a recoil pad, even a slip-on one, will work wonders. I've got a scoped 7 1/4 lb M-96 with short turned down barrel and sanded down beechwood stock that I can shoot all day with no problems because of the recoil pad. You don't need to buy a heavier rifle just a recoil pad. I think that if you carry it you'll find that the one you've got will get heavier all by itself. On the 9.3x57 to 9.3x62 conversion, I wouldn't do it either unless it's an M-98 or later. There have been M-98's in 9.3x57 on tradeex and you can expect there will be more. Maybe there's a few there right now. You should be able to get a new stock for it if needed.
