Norinco or Springfield ???

Wow. Feelings running hot.

"Can't we all just get along?" instead of slagging each other for choice of rifle.

There we go. Hope it ain't me. Taken a boat load of back pain killer today. For all I know, you're the little green man that's been tickling my toes while I tried to nap all afternoon. :D

not getting heated at all. just yaking. i also find it funny how the mere mention of springfield brings down the house. i don't slam norc's, i own their 1911 and i find totally adequate and spot on for the dollar. if i could justify spending another 1500.00 or more i'd go with kimber or springfield.

i find it disturbing that with the number of moderators in this site that the bashing is so prevalent.

we all have opinions which we are entitled to. the fact that we all share passion for the same hobby, which has many forms should bring us together not displace us. it don't matter what you shoot, just shoot and get people interested in it.

Yup, we mods are here and watching people keeping it pretty civil. At least this forum ain't the Off-Topic Forum!!

So if you can afford an M1A, buy one. If you can afford a $ 400 Norc M14, they buy that as well. That way you can have the best of all worlds.... :D

And if I can bribe Hungry to bring a clinic to us po' Northern Alberta boys...

Don't look, no subliminal messages here.

Hell, if you have it during the summer when there is little call for us teacher types, I just might decide to ride my Harley to Northern Alberta and attend, just for fun. Can't bring my guns, of course.

Edit: Good god that's a desolate looking place. I just googled it to find out where it is. Is that the best picture you could find to post on Wikipedia? What does that say about the rest of Grande Prairie? :)

LOL how did we go from a perfectly civil discussion on the best M14 to a religous discussion. :D

PS neither one is better it's just what you can afford at the time. :dancingbanana:

You've shot some s**t Springfields in your time then.

Maybe you just need to try one that hasn't been abused? Not that it matters. I've shot my share of Norincos assembled by retards too. I've two sitting in my safe, NEITHER of which touch my Socom.

I must just be really lucky. ;)

Or, the underscored point is that it isn't that the Springfield is so s**tty, but that you've spent a lot of time tuning Norcs?

Yes I have...I have also shot some 2 moa springs and one 1.25 moa NM springer...and that was the best one I've handled. I have been told many times that an NM M1A will do under 1 inch but I have never personally seen it, although I don't doubt that it happens.

In my experience, 6 moa is about what you can expect from a SOCOM, although I have seen them do four.

I am not down on springfields, I am just not especially impressed with them. I am not a Norinco fanatic - I would much rather own a really nice US built semi-auto version of the M14. But that wouldn't be a springfield, it would be an LRB. I could afford it, for sure...in fact I could afford it without stepping out of my checking account and into my savings! but that is big money for something I don't need, especially when I already have some very effective norks.

So while some guys might not understand not buying something you can afford, I guess I am just frugal. Maybe that's why I can afford the stuff!

But at any rate, don't take my word for it on the springfields...as previously mentioned, why not go to the Firing Line m14 forums where there are a ton of people who own springfields and can give you a better idea of how they perform.

I think if you ask around on there you will get the same basic numbers that I have given you...about 2 moa for standards and 6 for socoms, and approaching 1 for NMs.

Well, I have never had any difficulty getting under 2 with a $400 norinco with $200 of parts on it. And they have all been extremely reliable. So if you want a more expensive gun, get one...I don't feel the need!

i would buy a springfield because its the authentic .. the real deal.. etc etc..
thats the only reason..
i like norcs .. they perform well for their cost.. im not afraid to beat something with it incase it gets scratches .. chopping down the barrel - sweet as

Dude in GP shot with me last Friday. I shot my SAI Socom in a VLTOR stock with Sadlak spring guide.

At 200m, it certainly beats 6 moa, and I shoot for #### these days.

YMMV.

if you suggested your socom was shooting 6moa on the m14 forum i frequent they'd tell you to either 1. check your eyes or 2. check the gun. bs numbers you got there missy.

ps. you'd buy a vespa over a harley too i bet.

I have a safe full or norincos, several springfields, and an LRB. The LRB is definately the nicest; although it shot sh*tty until I replaced the Sadlack Ti coated piston with a USGI one. My springfields are nice, but nothing special in the accuracy world. My NM build is on a Norinco receiver, however the rest of the parts hanging off it and her McMillan stock put the package in the price range of a bona-fida Springfield NM.

My $0.02 worth? Whatever rocks your boat. Just make sure you get lots of ammo and time to go play....
