Unique 1911 NAA. I see somebody got the front strap :(

Its an odd trigger too.

Yes, long ago & in a galaxy far, far away when early Colt USGI's and early Commercials were seemingly in 'endless' supply people [and I use the term loosely] thought these old beauties would make good starters for 'custom' 1911's....

This one started out life as a Colt Commercial Government 1911, serial number C 12,### [mfg 1914].....

Front strap has been 'stippled'.... :(
Mainspring housing had the lanyard loop cut off and then flat was 'stippled'... :(
Very nice trigger job but original Colt hammer has been shaved flat on sides...:(
Original grip safety replaced with 'long tang' grip safety... :(
Original long trigger has had a wide trigger shoe added.... :(
Original double diamond grips replaced with plain checkered ones... :(
Slide 'lengthened' by 1", 6" barrel fitted with custom bushing.... :(
Bomar adjustable rear site with integral rib installed...
Custom front site dovetailed into front of lengthened slide.... :(

Other than that it's pretty nice.... :D

For what it is it is actually pretty nicely done. Would probably cost a fortune to have it done today. Anyway, since it has been previously reblued [forgot to add that to my list above... :(] I am going to let my 'smith look at it in terms of removing the 'stippling' off the front strap and mainspring housing flat and then rebluing the frame once again. The cheap fix would be to replace the mainspring housing with a modern flat one and then add a set of wraparound Pachmayrs to cover the cheese grater on the front strap.

I've already changed out the grips for a nice set of modern double diamond hardwoods so the looks have already improved 100%.... pics up later... Hope to put a few rounds down the pipe this weekend, shoot 'er as is and then go from there.... :)

There are some nice pics of 1911's here! I've got a couple and thought I should add mine to the eye candy. The top one is my STI 6" Eagle in 10mm with the long dust cover and night sights and trigger job the felt recoil is like my 9mm. Oh and i got the custom serial number for a $35 option I couldn't believe it was still available, "oo7". so of course that my name for the gun. Now the Kimber Stainless Target II in 10mm with night sights, trigger job. checkered front strap and Wicked Grips which cost me $250 and I had to wait ayear to get them, have a Silver Imlayed Star of David embed in the grips. consequently I call this one Osama's nightmare.
