New SIG Pistol! SIG P250

I don't really care who came up with the plastic frame first or the other features; Gaston Glock made them marketable.
Can't disagree with that. Glock's primary contribution to the world of firearms is in the field of advertising, not engineering/design. Convincing people that they could rely on a gun made [partially] of the same material as their lunchboxes was certainly no easy fit. But at the same time, Glock was also very lucky to release thier weapon just as North American police departments were starting to switch from DA revolvers to semi-autos. Without the NA law enforcement market, Glock would have never been what it is today.

Sig-Sauer is working from the opposite direction: it took characteristics from something that was already popular (a Glock pistol)and is trying to get in on the act.
Are you trying to suggest that this is somehow wrong or unethical? Are you saying that selling a rip off of another company's original design is okay while selling a rip off of a rip off is not?

Not wrong, just odd for an established firearms producers like Sig and Sauer. One expects them to be on the cutting edge and not just simply ripping off other designs as you put it. In other words they are held to a higher standard.
By copying the Glock and incorporating the removable hammer group of the Tokarev they are really flattering Gaston Glock and Fedor Tokarev.

The older manufacturers heaped scorn upon the Glock and now they emulate it. There is nothing wrong with changing ones mind but it is both ironical and funny.:):D:):):):):D:):D:)

They haven't ripped off anything more than John Browning ripped off the flintlock rifles because they were made of metal. Is a Glock a rip off of a 1911 because it has a locking barrel? Is S&W's M&P a rip off of a Glock too? Or is it a rip off of the VP70 mentioned above?

If you don't like Sig just say so. That's fine. Some like blue cars some like red. Some like Ford trucks some like GM. No big deal.

Certain units in the Hong Kong Police have been issued these so it'll be interesting to see a follow up report on how they perform.

I just find it funny that so many trounce the Glock until a company the denouncers love copies the Glock and suddenly the Tupperware concept is acceptable.

I do not really dislike SIG pistols I just prefer to buy other products which have more appeal to me. The about turn of the firearms manufacturers and their followers regarding the Glock concept I found hypocritical and laughable. :)

....how is P250 similar to Tokarev? or Glock for that matter...?

Well you see Torkarev worked for Browning, then copied the 1911 to make tt-33, which help caused the downfall of the Third Reich, likely Glaston Glock saw these pistols (muzzle first) and took the locking feature and melted down his models of T-34/85 tanks to produce the first prototype. Does it now make sense? :)

who copied what? whatever...
I think the real market for this gun is as was mentioned earlier, police and military (mostly police). Some police force will be able to buy a fixed number of firearms to outfit their crew, and with some spare grips and triggers will be able to outfit the vast majority of uniforms. Change the barrel/upper assembly and you've got yourself an undercover gun.
As civilian shooters, its far easier to go to the gun store, try out a bunch 'o guns and say "I like this one" - never minding the fact you can have 50 different permutations of the same gun.
I think this will be a hit with the police. Not so much with the civvies.

Well said !!!!

Wow, more bs about Glock than you can shake a stick at. For crying out loud, they are a decent, reliable pistol - they are nothing more. They are not revolutionary, there is no feature on a Glock that wasn't on another pistol earlier. Gaston Glock does not walk on water, there are those with more experience than me who would say they aren't even the most reliable pistol out there. The barrel locking at the top of the E-port was a Sig invention, HK did the polymer/striker fired/high cap. Nothing new. If the new Sig is reliable and accurate and as flexible as it claims to be it will do well. If Glock gets off it's *ss and realizes that it's design falls short on the user friendliness and improves the design (beyond cosmetic 'finger grooves') it could easily do better, but to say that the entire industry should stop trying because the Glock is the ultimate incarnation of the handgun is assinine. Unfortunately it's the kind of crap we here all too often.
Rant Over, we now return to our regularly scheduled programming.

The M&P is so similar to the Glock that I would say it IS a rip-off of it. An improved rip-off, but a rip-off none the less. Same goes for the Springfield XD and the Steyr M.

Nothing wrong with using good ideas and attempting to improve upon them, however. The simplicity and reliability of Glocks are things that I am personally glad other companies are incorporating into their new pistol designs.

I am a SIG fan, I fondled the 250 at SHOT, I can't say i was in love with pistol, it felt fine and trigger was nice, but it looked like the styling department was out to lunch when this pistol arrived. The front looks exactly like a Glock. If Iwas issued with it, I would be fine, but I doubt I would buy it.

SIGs are all ugly anyway. :dancingbanana:
