Experience with SE extended bolt stop

Not hard at all to install.

Knock out pin, remove GI bolt stop, pop in SEI and drive the new pin home.

Easy peasy quick and easy!

Really nice to use, makes a reload easier than yanking back on the op-rod. Just use your thumb or palm strike.

Hope it helps, Carl

Easy to install, just be carefull with the drift so you don't break off the tabs on the reciever. Probably have to buy a new roll pin since they always come out busted in half. Once on you'll probably think how you managed without it

Easy if you have the appropriate punch, just make sure you don't marr the side of the receiver, don't worry about the roll pin, use the SEI issued one.

Save yer money. I don't want any of you to have yer #### fall off if you did not get one. Getting the pin out was always a 'get ready to break a punch or 2' proposition. Never ever had the need for a bolt release in that location, just turn the rifle over and slap the op rod.

If you need to buy one, by all means feel free, but understand you can still live life without one.

For those of you who are determined to swap out the issue'd bolt stop, then use 2 or 3 layers of masking tape all around that area to protect the finish.....

I have one. It was easy to install.

The only thing I don't like about it is it is very easy to hit it and have the bolt slam shut when your not expecting it. Last year while hunting I had the bolt open and the mag out while in the truck. Brushed the rifle against my jacket, the bolt slammed home and scared the crap outa me. I wouldn't say they are a completely nessecary item to have and I have not bothered to find them for my other two rifles.

I like mine. I have the Rooster, not the SE, and have never had any problem with accidentally hitting it. I also like not having to turn the rifle over as Hungry suggests. Much easier, IMHO, to just tap the release on the same side as the hand that is changing the magazine.

As far as changing it out, be advised that it is not really a straight shot with a punch. If I remember correctly I ended up curving a punch in order to get around the receiver. It was easy once we had a curved punch but getting a straight punch in there was sort of a hassle.

The only reason I want one is because I am so used to them on the issue C7's. I can't imagine a semi-auto rifle without one.

At least you didn't shoot your truck from the inside. Fellow I hunted with did that when he had a feed/extractor/brain malfunction with a Rem 788.

I must be doing something wrong as I change magazines on my M1A with my right hand not my left hand. :runaway:

With the trap door open for support, left hand holding the rifle doesn't take much to do a mag change and hit the op-rod with your right hand.

i always use my right when im using my N14, even with stripper clips

had one...... hated it. I use nothin but usgi standard bolt stops now on all my builds.
while a fantastic idea..... it is way too easy to trip the release if it bumps anything..... not 100% safe in my opinion. On the battlefield.... for real.... different story.... if i was poundin sand , loaded out with an m14..... I'd prolly opt for the tac release.
