Lethality of the 22 LR standard velocity round

That's well beyond my expectations. I once dropped a jack rabbit at around 150 yards and I was really surprised after I paced it off. Now I can see why it was possible. The solid 40 grain rounds probably penetrate like the Dickens, similar to fmj.

i'd be curious to see results of the Copper Plated High Velocity Hollow Point rounds made by American Eagle. that's my favorite stuff to shoot, and i bet it would be even more lethal at longer ranges.

It's more of a copper wash then a plating....not going to affect penetration in any way.

Well, IIRc hold over for 200 yds is about 4 feet or so, so i'd say hold over at 300 has to be closer to the 15-20 feet range.

Out of curiosity how high would you have to hold over the turkey at 300 yards to hit it? 10 feet or more? Just guessing.

.22 will kill, theres just no stopping power, and your target will take a while to die, meaning they have a chance to make you die as well, which they will do since you've just shot them.

I find this odd, because we've shot up an old hyundai pony nearly point blank with a 10/22 using standard velocity rounds and all it did was leave a dent in the door. Thats pretty thin sheet metal too.

Someone needs to try it with FMJ .22 magnums then.:sniper:

My friends and I shot a few cars/trucks with .22lrs, went through the whole door, but I believe they were useless after exiting the inside of the door.

My friend wanted to shoot some holes in one of his road cars and clear coat/seal the holes preventing rust. Never did it yet though.

In short, shot placement...:D

You mean - gasp - regular .22 LR's; not the all-feared .22 FMJ's?

;):);)
