A few extra things

I was kinda wondering when I saw "spoon" and then "crystal" right under it!!! Don't you take a GPS or a SAT phone with you on these remote hunts. What about water purification tabs or filters?

Spoon is for eating dinner and breakfast but sadly no crystal to eat it off of...lol....that might be a bit much.. No GPS and have never taken a sat phone but guess it might not be a bad idea. Most of the backpack hunts I do are quite high elevation and water purification isn't an issue.

I started using all synthetics in my base layers and now I can't go anywhere without them. I will never wear cotton boxer shorts or t-shirts again. Under Armour can't be beat, also like North Face long underwear and fleece jackets. Anyone who hasn't tried these products, really needs too. Cotton is the devil for any type of physical exertion in multi temperature environments. I also can't leave without my Leatherman, a fantastically useful rig. Cheers,

Patrick

Only issue I have with Under Armour is you can't get the smell out of it after a long trip. Never had this issue with other synthetic underwear but it seems really bad with Under Armour and several friends have mentioned the same thing.

I found last year while we were out the craving for salt far exceeded a want for sweet. This year I will take more Ichiban crushed with the powder.

Believe it or not "yellow death" was a gourmet meal after eating Backpacker pantry for five days.

I take eatmore chocolate bars, king size and two per day. For one, they don't melt as bad as a chocolate bar, packed with protien and it is the only time I get to eat them with my son at home being deathly allergic.

A guide tarp would be nice to have if you pitch base camp and head from there each day. An unplanned stay overnight on a mountain can be that much more enjoyable as you get to spoon with your stinky hunting buddy. lol

Just wondering. How much does your pack weigh out at and what do you do for water purification? Are you not worried about contracting Giarrdia from the local water sources?

Hey, at least I take some baby wipes and deodorant....most don't......but ya, you don't head straight to the bar looking to get lucky that's for sure. But truthfully, after three ot four days it really doesn't matter any more........

I told my wife about the no soap for 12 days. She smiled sweetly and said better wait till we can set up an outside shower cuz you ain't coming in the house or touching me till you've had one. That and I am doing my own laundry on that one for sure. I asked her if that included if I went in during the winter she said yes. Ouch.

The only thing not mentioned by you or anyone else that I can see would be some kind of knife sharpening system. Just a thought!

Are you thinking of harvesting any grouse or other smaller animals to suppliment meals? There was another thread on using a small air pistol for that.

Haven't weighed it yet but guessing around 60 pound sans rifle!

Water at high elevation is not much to worry about. I've had Giarrdia twice but never from sheep camps.

Nope, she's freeze dried all the way unless I can kill a ptarmigan with a rock. Actually lots of food for 12 days.

Good thing is, there isn't much laundry to do....lol

Record without a shower is 18 days.....yup, I stunk!

There is that she did say it would have to go by itself no touching her or the kids stuff

Man that is hard core.

I'd ave to bring a book yeah I know why would anyone bring a book. I always try to get even if it's just a half hour in of reading relaxes me at the end of the day. So a book on something like edible plants, bow making, hunting or basics of an operating system.

I find that the polypropelene's like many of the synthetics are fantastic base layers. Warm when wet and all that, but the smell...... so hard to get it out. I'm sure that if I can smell it, the animals would know I'm in the area a postal code or two in advance. Nothing beats old fashioned merino wool.

Worst thing I found was how bad those Sportivas make my feet smell. I could kill sheep with them alone. I have to take more soap this year or I won't be allowed in the tent. I wish I could fit some insoles in them, my feet feel like they've been hit by a blacksmith hammer after a couple days. owie!

Some luxury items I like to have:

EXCEL gum. I like to chew gum while hiking, keeps the mouth from drying out. It's also nice to have somewhat fresh breath.:)

I like to take a paperback to read at night in the tent, helps me fall asleep fast.

Some sort of lightweight camp shoes. I've recenly bought some superlight "Croc" style plastic clog things. Nice to wear in camp, good for if you are going to wade across a deep river, too.

I liek to have baby wipes but also have some cloth "pellets" that you drop into water and they expand.

I usually take some rolaids, too, since lots of freeze dried food gives me indigestion.:)
