South African .308 @ $1 a round WTF?

"...their plans of raping people for $1 a round will be over..." Right. They'll whisper sweet nothings in your ear(no dinner though) while taking $2 a shot from you. Surplus ball ammo, of any manufacture, is drying up.
No milsurp ammo is made for great accuracy anyway. If you want accuracy, you reload.
"...two gunstores in London..." Both of which cater to hunters and target shooters. Despite Gobles having a few beat up milsurps.

I guess they are trying to dump it because pretty soon the new boatloads of surplus for $399 will be in and their plans of raping people for $1 a round will be over.

You will be very disappointed if you believe that ammo will get cheaper. It will only go up and up, that's if you can find it. I drove 14 hours straight to get my hands on a few cases of S.A. 308 and I am glad I did.

There are folks out there who things oil is also going back to $20-$30/bbl and gold will drop down into the $200-$300 range again but wishful thinking ain't never made anything come true.

As for Federal soft point vs. FMJ, it all depends what you are stocking up for and what kind of quantities you want to have on hand.

Actually, A sponsor has already stated the price..it might have been $299 even.
The boat was supposed to land in June, but has been delayed until Nov./Dec.

Buy your $1000 cases of .308. I will reload until the cheap stuff comes in.

(I can't find the post detailing the deal)

If any vendor is going to sell 7.62X51 for $299/case, I'll buy you one as a Christmas gift , no questions asked. ;)

Here, if you need more proof, look at what it sells for in the states. This is from WarRifles.com, an American forum.

FS: South African .308 Battle Packs
I've got a bunch of these for sale. I don't know how many off the top of my head as I'm currently out of town and won't be back until Sunday, but I'll update then. The price is $70 per battle pack shipping included. I've got something in the neighborhood of 40-50 of these for sale.

If the Yanks are willing to pay that kind of money for it, you can bet that it will sell for at least that in Canada.

I agree with you BUT 140 plus shipping is gonna make me rich:D:D

my collection of m14's are now ALL match chambered for .308 .... reloads or commercial .308 only....... got tired of waiting for the boat of cheap surplus to arrive.

I'm not sure what that post is about.
I needed proof of something?

$70 shipped..that is a good deal. So that would be about $60 a B/P.

Far cry from $140....

Well, it was just a rhetorical way of speaking, about the needing proof. What I was trying to say is that even the Americans are now paying more than double what they used to pay for ammo, so it's not our dealers robbing us.

And while $70/bp is not $140, it also isn't $32 (which is what $299/case would make a battle pack).

If the SA ammo was half decent, I'd consider paying $1 a shot for the surplus, but frankly the stuff sucks donkey ####. 2-3" at 50 m is pathetic, I'd rather not shoot if that's what I have to deal with.

Now, if I'm forced to pay over $1 a round, I'll go buy commercial Remington Core Lokt so I can shoot <1" at 100 m. The SA #### can corrode to dust at $1 a round as far as I'm concerned.

You know what, since this thread started I noticed a few guys selling their SA .308 battle packs at higher than average prices on the E&E ??????????

S.A. shoots awesome for me. Consistently hitting clay pigeons at 200 yards, with iron sights.
