Issues with fellow CGN'er

In my experience it takes about 3 minutes to start a firearms transfer. everyone..(i don't care if your in a body cast in the hospital you can make a firearms transfer). i'd give him a call. everyday.

It's just plain rude and ignorant. 5 days is not cool.

It often takes 10 or 15 minutes for a person to answer the phone. On one occasion,I waited 30 minutes then gave up and tried again the next day.The next day it took about 10 minutes.

Common courtesy

This is a darn good topic to talk about. There are a lot of CGNers and that means all kinds of different attitudes and values when it comes to dealing with our fellow enthusiasts. I think it's a good thing to make an effort to keep the slackers reminded that we need to do a good job of looking after each other no matter what by being decent, honest, fair and whatever else it takes to get the job done right.

Some folks just need to be reminded.

Let us know...

Don't know if this is the place to bring it up, but here it goes.
I am attempting to purchase a rifle from a chap on here who's trader rating is in the mid twenties and all feedback is good.
I was looking for a specific rifle in a specific calibre. He PM'd me that he had one and gave me the price. I agreed @ 5pm. @ 9am the next day he was looking for payment details ASAP. Later that day, within 24 hours of committing to buy, I did the EMT and payment received on his end. Now going on 5 days later, no rifle, no transfer info. Just a message from him last week that he was busy and was going to try to call the CFC.
Am I getting paranoid, or does this deserve more patience on my part?

When you do find out what the hold up was, be sure and let us know. I for one am interested to hear how this concludes.

I bought a firearm here once. Sent a money order and the guy sat on it for quite some time. Said he was giving me a chance to think about it and wouldn't "cash" the m/o until he sent the rifle despite my insistence that I was comfortable with the deal as we agreed upon. Come to find out he's negotiating a deal for that very rifle with a guy in Montreal. All way after our agreed upon deal and my sending the money. Funny thing is, the guy in Montreal that he was dealing with happens to be the only person in Quebec that I know and we discovered the issue quite by accident while chatting on the phone. At that point the friend politely declined the salesman out of respect for our deal that had already been made even though we both wanted the rifle.

It's funny what people will do when they think no one is watching.

Hey Guys, Chuck Nelson's story is another testament as to some members ethics (or lack of). I'd of had to want the gun pretty badly to not get my buddy to offer a bunch extra for the gun and then me contact the seller with a change of heart (as possibly suggested) to get my MO back. Once I got the money back, I'd have had my Quebec friend back out and left the tool with their hardware. That's why we all get a little nervous when a deal seems to stall in 5th gear.

I play it safe and buy from guys who are well known and have trader ratings over 15. Never had any problems yet.
If someone asks me to transfer the rifle before payment I have no problems but the rifle is at my place till I recieve the funds. If the funds don't arrive I call the CFAC explain the situation and have it reversed...it makes both parties happy.
If I were you I would be concerned as well, maybe contact the mods and keep firing PM's

Cheers!!

I send half payment wait for transfer info then send rest of money. That said I have only ever bought one internet gun, due to other reason.

After payment is received, there is no reason for the seller not to start the transfer process the next day. This is what I do. My last transaction took a few days before I received the reference number from the seller. I guess some people do things at their own pace and their own good time.

Packaging for Shipping Long guns....

I have 2 or 3 that I am looking to sell, and the only reason for them not being in the EE right now is that I need to find the proper packaging. I hardly find it fair to recieve payment, which is usually in the hundreds of dollars, then make a guy wait till you have the time to find packaging.

I used to worry about having the proper packaging, too. Bought up a bunch of those Plano foam lined, black plastic, 52" hard cases after hunting season for $8 each at Wal-Mart a couple years back. When I ship a rifle it's usually in one of those, with a hard cardboard carton build around the outside of Plano hardcase. There's lots of nice, clean, hard cardboard in recycle bins left from appliances, etc. Also the packaging that florescent bulbs or patio umbrellas come in makes a nice cardboard carton.

I reinforce the cardboard carton with duct tape, on the ends & in a few bands around the mid-section. The outside of the package is then wrapped in brown paper [using surplus brown paper bags cut to fit]. I then address it, to & from, then completely wrap the outside of the entire package in clear packing tape. Makes a bit of a moisture seal.

I usually get complimented on my shipping and pride myself on it.

With a 20+ trader rating you should be ok.I learned the hard way to be real carefull about buying from 0 raters. The suggestion of having the transfer started first before funds are transferred and only using emt I highly recommend.Every seller/buyer has to start at 0,obviously.The guy who stole my money was a +3('going through a divorce')last I heard from him.Sent a postal money order without insisting on a transfer start first.

If everyone did that then how would anyone get to a rating of 15????

I prefer to play my odds, if Im going to send $1500 Id sooner send it to someone with a high trader value then someone with under ten. Comes up from time to time that guys get burned and its from people with low posts and low trader scores.
Usually but certainly not always people that are trusted have been members here on CGN for a long time have a big trader score.

Cheers!!

+1

Also, be careful of guys with all their rating as "buyers" and minimal or nothing as "sellers". I got burned by a guy with a +10 trader rating, all as a buyer, but nothing previous as a "seller", when he sold me an "as new" Rem 700 stainless 'take off' barrel for a project I was looking to do. Barrel arrived with a nice big 'ding' in it 1/2 way down on the outside. No way you could miss it. Needless to say I wanted to sent it back to him for a refund but his only words were, even if he had "known" about the ding in the outside, he still would've sold it for the same price. [It wasn't a "deal" just the average price you'd expect to pay for an "as new" Rem 700 stainless take-off barrel]. So, I had no choice but to leave him a negative trader rating.

EMT is not always your friend. Its great if you are the seller, but sometimes its not comforting sending $1000 to a hotmail account, not knowing who is on the other end really.

At least with a Money Order you have a name and an address, with a signature if you want.
