Best 9mm Ammo for Self defence?

Well Dr. Ignatius believes that safe action pistols are best.

A G26 with some very fast 135's would be an amazingly safe combo. It can destroy vests and blow limbs off.

(For the Single man..maybe if you have a girlfriend).

Dr. Ignatius is a retard. Although he is correct, it doesn't get much safer or easier than with Glock pistols.

Ok I read most of the thread.... but in Canada isn't shooting an intruder looked at simple as murder and not self defense.

I have read many times where the would be victim has shot the assailant in Canada and been charged with anything from murder to unsafe storage to even excessive force.

So whats the deal?
Personally if it came to it I would rather ask for forgiveness then permission, as being alive is better then dead. But seriously, if would take me at LEAST 45 seconds from the time I realized I needed self defense to the time I would be ready to use it.

Then you're not ready to use any method of force. Legal or not, my life is worth defending by any and all means possible. If that means "breaking the law" by having my AR with full capacity magazines or a loaded handgun beside the bed, so be it.

The choice to defend oneself and the level of action one is willing to take is a decision only the individual can/should make. Those who willingly allow another individual or written law dictate whether or not they defend themselves. Deserve any and all malice directed towards them by those who abide by no law.

The thing is I dont feel I am a low risk even at having a home invasion so keeping my walter in the night stand ready to go isnt something I would think to do every night, as I know I wouldnt want to leave it like that during the day when I am not around.
I guess I should look into those quick to open safes and put it in my night stand or something.

The decision is one you have to make. Many feel the "odds" of being invaded or otherwise are too low to be concerned with. My question is, why have home insurance when the odds of a fire are in the 1 in a million range? Using 2003 crime stats your chances of being involved in a violent crime are 1 in 104 based on Canada's population in 2003. Those odds seem a lot higher than the odds of your home burning. So why the concern with home insurance but the lack of concern for ones personal safety?

Your concern with leaving your Walther in the nightstand is an ignorant issue. Lock it up when you leave the house. The use of a rapid access safe is also a great idea.

I love the fire insurance argument. I use it all the time. People suddenly see that their reaction is to the firearm and not to "common sense" like they think it is.

From the logical/statistical standpoint, we should all be taking our house insurance money every year and investing it in guns and training.

Sounds good to me!

I wouldn't cancel my house insurance and reinvest in personal defense. I'd keep both. The facts and logic associated with the numbers seem to allude many. When you illustrate the facts like I've done, its a lot easier to see the truth.

Good point.
Now.. Whats a good rapid access safe? and are they that rapid? And can I legally store it loaded in said safe? or does mag have to be removed? (for during the day when i am not there). Would be handy to just leave it loaded.

I believe I read a FBI report to the effect that 147gr was required so as to get enough penetration. They learned this the hard way.

Center of mass. Go for it. Ever turn off the range lights and do some shooting? Good practice. Find out if ammo has too much muzzle flash. It can cost you your night vision.

I won't tell you what you could or should do. I will however tell you this. After the incident, who's going to know if the pistol was loaded or not prior to the events."I was in fear for my life and the life of my wife/family. I want a lawyer."

Somalians, Chinese, Filipinos, and skinny whites blacks etc would go down better with fast 115 grain hp's such as Silvertips/Frangible.
Get fast 115's for this demographic, as fast as you can.
Limited fat to deal with...some of these guys are so skinny that you can deal with them like Varmints. So I'd match this demographic to places such as Vancouver.

Big boys like the average man in Chicago (6'3), you may need 147 hp such as SXT's. Some of these guys are very big and or fat so you'll want a slower round with more penetration. So maybe if you live in rural Alberta, this would be a nice choice for you.

Your comments disgust me!

Flying ashtrays ( Hollow Points ) .
Iv'e hand loaded different types of hollow points & find speers work the best in my testings. Remember shot placements should be # 1 , then the ammo your using .
Stay away from hand loaded ammunition for use as self defense loads it can lead rather serious consequences in a court of law when you are trying to defend yourself against charges brought up on self defense

Name a single case in the USA or anywhere where the defensive use of handloaded ammo has resulted in "serious consquences".

Otherwise, stop spreading this urban myth.

Really urban Myth I have been told by many US firearms instructors that teach both the CCW Course's and handgun course and not IDPA oriented courses ethier and several US and Canadian law Enforcement officers as well if you want to have an interesting experience go ahead and use your hand loads in self defence .If it goes to trail the 1st statement regarding the ammunition used by the DA / Prosecutor is that the hand load bullets used were specifically loaded to kill another person and that you were looking for the right opportunity to use. Using commercially available hollow point handgun ammunition reduces the risk that other than a self defence was the primary is the reason that you were charged . Remember the Prosecutors are trying to nail you ass for this why give them more ammunition
BTW Mas next time use Spell check , I Corrected your spelling you dont have to thank me :welcome:
