Liebril Ban on Military Weapons

As well as talking to your local CPC guy. You should also talk to your local liberal candidate, and explain why they wont be getting your vote, politely.

Someone should bring up this point to the media. The Liberals are breaking there promise that the registry was created for public safety and that it would not lead to the confiscation of firearms. I think a law suit could be in place if the registry was used for such a purpose.

Hmmm, interesting idea.

Now what have I done with that Garand of mine? Seems to have evaporated!

Geoff

My favorite was the guy in Ontario who reported that he had misplaced a Bren gun and a MAC 10 (both F/A). I can just hear it - "you know I was sure I'd left the Bren on the coffee table, but when I went to look for it, it wasn't there" He's my hero, whoever he is :D

There is a precedent for the evaporating firearm - look at the number of restricted rifles in BC, some of the ones that were kicking around during the '90s must have evaporated, it's the only way the registries numbers make any sense, and we all know the registry can't be wrong.

I'm so glad I own an antique! You can't take away what isn't a firearm! You'll never get my Snider! :D

Bayonet, and the fact it is a former military weapon...poof! It's gone off to the RCMP smelter.

Also some comity of so called firearms, and hunting experts of Fudds out in Ontario will probably be formed and say it has no sporting purposes...So there yah go.

I'm curious as to IF a ban of sorts ever happened, how many phonecalls the CFC would get reporting stolen/missing/lost firearms?!

These socialist liberals have to go! (Or just converted)

Well, right now we are at the ballot box stage...

Like one of my parent's friend says, "who needs a 50 caliber rifle anyways?" How ignorant is that? I mean, it's .577! Learn your firearms!

Whether or not you collect milsurps, fact is all handguns will be on the block next as they too have no sporting purpose if you only consider hunting to be the only legitimate sporting purpose, which apparently they do. And how long that lasts is a matter of debate with all the anti hunting groups out there.

Let's send it to the CPC! Anyone have a clip?

I'm thinking this is the quote you mean:

On September 22, 1998, Anne McLellan (the Liberal Minister of Justice) said "we're not interested in confiscating their guns, as long as they are legitimate gun owners, as long as they store them appropriately, transport them appropriately and so on ..."

That same day, in a debate in Canada's Parliament, Liberal MP John McKay (Scarborough East) stated,

"Turning now to the motion, the first issue is the confiscation of private property. If the mover thought about that for more than five seconds, he would realize that a proper registration system gives security of ownership and enhances value. Far from confiscating, it does the exact opposite and legitimizes the owning of firearms. Certainly property registration does wonders for land titles and land values as it does for motor vehicles and other forms of property. Why would it not be true with firearms? "

On August 26, 2004, Canada's Commissioner of Firearms spoke at the annual meeting of the Canadian Professional Police Association. He declared: "For years, firearm owners have expressed fears regarding the confiscation of firearms. This is a concern I heard loud and clear when we held consultations with firearms organizations last fall. But, in fact, those fears have not materialized."

In a 1976, interview in the New Yorker, the late Nelson Shields, who was then the head of the group which is now known as the Brady Campaign, explained registration's purpose:

The first problem is to slow down the number of handguns being produced and sold in this country. The second problem is to get handguns registered. The final problem is to make possession of all handguns and all handgun ammunition — except for the military, police, licensed security guards, licensed sporting clubs, and licensed gun collectors — totally illegal.
