Well I have to say, from the angle I see it at, the roof does NOT look quite big enough. Rain will still get in if there is any kind of wind or breeze. If u asked me if I wanted to sit in it, I would have to say no thanks, the roof isnt big enough for my liking! LOL!! Either way it should do the trick, nice job.

that looks great! howd you get all the supplies in there? or is it near your house/road or whatever lol but as said above, you may want to make the roof a little bigger:) but great work!

nice little place. But I do not see the building permit posted on the tree. LOL
Looks great good luck this year.

Cheers

The lower part of the roof sits at 26' and the higher part is about 27'. At that height it starts to get tricky what you "want to do" and "what you can do". What we had on hand as lumber was the deciding factor as far as the roof goes. Everything was hauled up that mountain by hand (me 29, and dad 53), we used a small boat to cross our lake and then had to hike the lumber 300-325 meters uphill (no roads, no paths, just deer trails). The 4'x8' sheets (marine grade) were cut in half to ease the climb and maneuvering in the bush. For the roof we cut a sheet 5'x4' and another 4'x4', we though it was going to be enough:rolleyes:.

Remember guys it's a work in progress. By the time I'm done I'll be able to hunt in this thing during a hurricane!

Looks great! Having put up a few box standsmyself, I can see that was a lot of work. I would not worry to much about the roof, but I would screw a piece of plywood or something on the back wall starting from the roof covering at least a foot or two down. You do not need that part open because your not looking up, your looking down, and this would also prevent a lot of rain and wind to come through.

Very nice ! I have to make myself another one , built one last year but decided to hunt a scrape line i found , so I let dear old dad use it & he shot a decent 8 pt the first evening , so it's his now .

As a side note, since it is not self supporting, make sure every year you check every screw that is in a tree. As the tree grows, you will notice broken screws, and adjustments will have to be made.

That is so true...I have built a few and you have to check the screws EVERY year, maybe even a couple of times a year. The swaying of the trees in the wind and the effects of tree-sap on the screws really limits their strength. I think I got 3 years of use out of the ones I built. Looks like a great stand site though...private land I hope. How many guys have built these on public ground only to show up opening morning and find someone else in it  Good luck.:)
