Okay I grew up here, and I can remember for the longest time, at least 20 years, buckshot of any sort was illegal for the hunter to carry in areas where wildlife was found.
Since the invasion of coyotes into the Maritimes, most provinces allow (NS at least) small #4 buckshot to be carried and used during small game season. But No legal use for deer or black bear allowed here in NS. That's fine.
My presumption is allow the NS small game hunter, to have some sort of ability to ethically harvest coyotes during small game harvest.

However, has anyone in NS actually looked over the counter of Canadian Tire stores in the HRM at shotgun buckshot ammunition for sale?
Not a single box of #4 Buckshot to be found. Lots of 0, and 00 buckshot, but NO legal size buckshot for game use in NS!?!?

What a waste of inventory and effort..........st&*)d merchants!

I don't know if that is poor inventory and effort or not.
My buddy sold a lot of lead "turkey loads" from his shop for years (we have no turkeys) in fact any heavy lead shells sold very quickly.

#4 buck shot is scarce out here in Calgary too. I asked the guy at Russell's if they had any, and he told me no, because the stuff just doesn't move off the shelves.

Geotrekr, when I left Cold Lake, for a military posting to CFB Shearwater, I was fully aware of the NS game laws regarding buckshot use here.

I often stopped, especially during the longest trek across Ontario, and found ONE store that had a whole two boxes of #4 buckshot in North Bay.

I guess the mystery deepens bill c-68....

I just picked up 10 boxes of Federal 3" - 41 pellet #4 Buckshot last week. I had to have it ordered in as they did not have any in stock.

Thanks for the thought Pharoh2....unhappily no. ;)

PS: Yesterday I rumaged through my 12 bore shotgun shell stock, and found 128, 2 3/4 inch slugs, 62 of which are Brenneke Rottweil, & 22 buckshot, only 10 of which are #4 buckshot.
Also downstairs in the 20 bore department, I have 35, 2 3/4 inch sabot slugs, 10 Federal foster slugs and one 5 pack of #3 buckshot.

If I was back in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, my deer hunting trips would be short and close and cheap!
How's that for lopsided??

"...No legal use for deer or black bear..." That's likely why. Not enough demand.
"...have some sort of ability to ethically harvest coyotes..." Varmint rifles not allowed either? Buckshot of any size is useless past about 30 yards or so.

YOU Did Not READ My post, or B's either, OR anyone else here Whom has Had firsthand experence with shotgun use on coyotes, sunray! #4 Buckshot IS ALLOWED for coyotes! Not enough demand huh.....then why the sales of 00 buckshot??

Time and time again your opinions are thinly researched here.
Perhaps you could read the NS regulations available on-line.
And now, the latest candidate for my Ignore List!

You could try one of the police supply places in Halifax, Viking is one, and I forget the other, but its in Burnside. I would expect they would carry #4 Buck, if only because some of it is in use with a LEO in the Maritimes. No garantees though.
You surprised me with the fact you can get 00 easily, for years that was an order in only kinda deal for most of NS.

Did you not read what I just said?? Spoken from experience there....You really seem to have a hate on for buckshot.

Just look at his post volume...

This is the guy that tells people to stay out of the woods if you're concerned about bears as well...

You seem to presume that the only sales of ammunition is to hunters and for hunting. Let me share with you a fact: if 00 Buck didn't sell they wouldn't stock it, and if #4 Buck did sell they would stock it. A recreational shooter will often expend more ammunition during a single trip to the range than a hunter will use in an entire season. Canadian Tire will stock what sells. That is not "a waste of inventory"; trying to sell a product that doesn't sell would be "a waste of inventory".
